Ok, so I don't normally like to whine, especially online! but I am aggravated about this year's lack of celebration of the Baptism of the Lord.
Epiphany is Sunday, Jan. 8th which means that the Baptism of the Lord won't be celebrated at all this year. I feel as if we are missing out on an important feast of Our Lord here. I understand easily when a saint's day is suppressed by a more important feast or solemnity, but the Baptism is a feast which highlights a critical part of our Lord's ministry and I really feel it shouldn't just be pushed aside. Both the Epiphany and the Baptism should be on the liturgical calendar every year. This is what happens when you mess with the calendar!
If only I had access to an EF Mass...
Thanks for letting me vent!

Not to worry, Caroline, it's not suppressed. It's on Monday, January 9.
Quote:
Where the Solemnity of the Epiphany is transferred to Sunday, if this Sunday occurs on January 7 or 8, the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord is celebrated on the following Monday. |

This feast would never be suppressed. Advent and Christmas season and feasts are the most confusing because they are movable. You never know what day Christmas, Holy Family, New Year, Epiphany, and Baptism will fall each year!

That's a relief! I saw thisonline, checked my iCal which has a liturgical calendar on it, and nearly freaked out! (That's what we used to do back in the day ).
Now that I am looking in my Guide to the Liturgy of the Hours, I see that the Baptism IS on Monday...phew! Don't know why those other sources were wrong.
Thanks for putting my mind at ease!

I guess there are advantages to whining online!
We just got our calendar from the church and I haven't even looked ahead yet. SO relieved all is well and that I learned something too. Thanks, Jenn and Caroline!

Well, I'm just excited that Epiphany falls on First Friday this year on the old calendar. We go to the Latin mass, and we often don't get an epiphany mass at all because it isn't a HDO since it is moved but it isn't moved on the old calendar. Since we have a regular First Friday mass every month, it will be an Epiphany mass, and this is a nice treat

But then there is the confusion for my family. We attended Epiphany -- but then due to scheduling conflicts and the long drive to our EF parish, we attended the local OF parish (a good parish) - and had Epiphany all over again.
But we didn't really miss the Baptism in either form, because Sunday at EF was the Holy Family.
Circumcision was last week - not Mary Mother of God (so we miss that one).
