Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

How is it that Thanksgiving isn't even here, yet I feel like I am way behind on Christmas prep?????

I don't know but I'll join you.

Part of that for me is that I had some things I expected at or near to Thanksgiving happen 2 weeks sooner so I keep missing Thanksgiving and feeling like I need to be well into Christmas prep.

Maybe it's that I've been doing a small amount of Christmas prep mixed in with Thanksgiving prep and Birthday and Advent So that I feel like everything is behind even when some of it is being done ahead.

Amen, Sister! I'm working on Advent and Christmas plans right now and feeling so inadequate and unprepared. Plus I am hosting the retreat for K-3 for our homeschool group this Monday.

I'm behind the 8 ball!

It's always hardest when Thanksgiving and 1st Sunday of Advent happens in the same week.

This may be it. With Advent on Sunday, I just don't know how I am going to be ready....but I guess it is coming, whether I am ready or not!

Plans, people plan this stuff??? Well, I can’t be behind if I didn’t have plans to make plans to begin with, right??
Hummm....our first vegan Thanksgiving and Christmas....that I might need to think about a tiny bit. Otherwise, it might look a bit like Snoopy’s Thanksgiving meal....toast and popcorn, that’s vegan, right??

that does make it feel crowded at this end but I do enjoy the longer season of Advent and having the Holy days spaced out instead of "on top of each other" at the other end.

oh, so glad I'm not alone. to top it off, as I was standing at the calendar saying "Advent? right after Thanksgiving? and that's WHEN?" I realized we have a house guest arriving Sunday, who I had completely forgotten about. and who will be sleeping in our school room. whose floor I haven't seen in at least a week.

Christmas prep. right. gotta get right on that. assuming I survive the rest of November.

I'm feeling the same way, and I felt a little relieved when I realized that Thanksgiving was really early this year, so I have more time *after* Thanksgiving than usual. I have an awful lot of irons in the fire, and my house is terribly chaotic. (Which, I'd really intended to be cleaning my office right now, lol). I'm relieved we aren't traveling this year. This means I can "cram" this weekend while dh is home

I do have most of my Christmas shopping done. I had the goal of not needing to shop during Advent. There are still some things I need to pull together, a few handmade items, and wrapping/boxing up/mailing, but the biggest thing is getting my house in order for long enough to start Christmas cards. I can't stand doing that when things are already messy around me I did BUY Christmas cards And I have "take family picture" on the calendar, lol.

Well, I made up an "Advent/Christmas" spreadsheet calendar, on the model of the one Lindsay posted on an earlier Advent thread. And -- that's it. All these impressive little notes to self about observing every single day of both seasons, but I haven't done the first thing about any of it, except buy a few presents to take with us to Thanksgiving, and then to think about buying others.

And we'll be driving home all day on Advent 1, having gone to Mass the night before, which always kicks off Advent in kind of a non-way. Oh well. It is a whole season.

But yeah.

Sally

I am impressed    A few years back this was always a goal. Be done with most gifts by Thanksgiving. ... This year, well, I haven't even started

Can someone read aloud in the car? Maybe you can find a nice book to read that would give your Advent a nice start even stuck in the car. I'd have to look for an audio book but there are older books at librivox.org (free) that might have something.

Me too!!!! I was feeling guilty last night because we haven't put up our tree yet. That is insane, but most of my friends already have theirs up!

I am planning on doing very little traditional homeschooling during December. We are going to write Christmas cards, bake goodies, read Tomie DePaola books, etc. It is going to be so much more relaxing and fun than Christmas has been the last couple of years when the kids were in preschool and there was CONSTANT stuff going on! It was so exhausting that I didn't even send out Christmas cards either year!
