Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

OK - I don't watch movies much at all. . . sooooo - I am going on a trip to my parents this weekend. . . I am looking for 1 or 2 movies to download from iTunes for myself and/or my 14 year old dd. So, list your favorites - including old time classics or newer movies. I get overwhelmed looking at the iTunes cause there are sooooo many movies and most look really weird to me!

Pride and Prejudice

Emma

Sense and Sensibility

There are many others but we (my 15 yr. old dd and I) always seem to go back to these three.

Those are our favorites too!!! I all three versions of Emma and both versions of S&S, leaning towards the newest one, but P&P our fave is the 1995 BBC.

My 20-yo and I would add Little Dorrit and North and South. (the Dickens one being darker because, well, it's Dickens )

I'll add Wives and Daughters to fill out the list a smidge.

I *almost* added that! Just thought of 2 more (but forget them if you don't like sad endings)

Becoming Jane

and

Miss Potter

Oh and "Bleak House". Dickens --dreary in parts but a happy ending.

We just love these two movies!!!!!!

Actually dd and I love ALL the movies mentioned here and we both give them !!! You've named all our favorites!

Little Women with Winona Ryder is good, too.

While you're at itunes, download their soundtracks, esp. Sense and Sensibility! And play them on your drive! It will be a perfectly delicious Jane Austen theme then! Miss Potter and Little Women's soundtrack is also quite lovely!

Okay, so is Becoming Jane really good? Really? Because I'm having a hard time getting past Anne Hathaway...

Unless you watch the most recent one (I like both) which is just over 2 hours.

For some reason I am tempted to say Sense and Sensibility. I like the Emma Thompson version.

Oh girls - just pop on your next available airline flight and get over here tonight! I'm popping popcorn and we can have some sort of yummy tea or something! Is there any such felicity superior to this? I ask you!

If only!

So Jen I'm curious, which character would you say you are most like? I can most closely identify with Elinor I think as I have a sister somewhat similar to Marianne, albeit older and not younger.

Oh, I'm probably most like Marianne - impetuous, emotional and driven by passion. But, I have a good bit of Elinor in there as I can be RIDICULOUSLY practical and sensible, too...and I can be quite PASSIONATE about it!

My sister and I are both Marianne - which means we do nothing but validate each other in our passions!

Yes, it's good, but I'm not sure how much of a problem you have with Anne Hathaway. Just a personal pref thing? Or did I miss something important about her? Oh dear. I bet I did. And if it's unsavory, just email me Lindsay. sigh.

Back to the movie - they do take some liberties with Jane's life, but overall I think it's pretty good. I like Miss Potter better. Merciful heavens - the countryside of Ambleside. Just breathtaking!

I used to like her before she decided she had to prove herself by being in scandalous movies, and then I heard an interview that really put me off.    After that, she started to bother me. Actor's and actresses really shouldn't have opinions

I loved Miss Potter Made me want desperately to visit the lake country!
