Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am happy to announce Elizabeth's beautiful new kitchen blog, Kitchen Comforts. Congratulations Elizabeth! (and to think, all this from a woman who was never going to have a blog. )

Oh, I soooo knew you were going to say that! It was Rebecca's Kitchen blog that inspired me here...

Only fattening if you eat the wheat or the chocolate, neither of which I can stomach. So...I tend to stick to savories, heavy on the veggies, except when it's the greatest feast day of the year (which just so happens to be a good day to debut a kitchen blog !)

I've been thinking a lot about cooking when one can't eat or even cooking what one can't eat. I've decided it's like sewing clothes you'll never wear, clothes for someone else. People do that all the time. I love food, but it doesn't love me lately. That's okay, cooking is still creative.

you gals don't know how tickled pink i am that there's two of you now!    hope more blogging moms would add a cooking blog or at least a cooking category to their blogs -- the food blog world needs more gals like you!!! (and that is an understatement!!)

i was saying to rebecca privately how i wish more 4real people would food blog since a lot of "secular" food bloggers aren't as nice as y'all (no surprise)

i commented on your blog but i'll say it here too -- i'm esp. interested because we're also food-blogging from opposite perspectives: you cook what you can't eat, and i can't cook what i can eat. is that or ?

Stef,
Ordinarily, I cook what I love to eat. There are exceptions, though.   I can't eat wheat and I do bake for very special occasions. And...right now, I pretty much can't eat anything , so I'm just cooking by rote. This extended all day long morning sickness really has made me ponder the importance of food beyond nutrition though. I recognize now how closely tied it is to comfort and tradition. I'm looking very forward to enjoying food again. Soon. I hope.

I am enjoying all of your food blogs immensely.

Now I have a question for you -- I have about 5 families to whom I would like to deliver meals. What are your favorite meals to share with others? Possibly freezable, definitely kid friendly --

I look forward to reading your answers in blog or forum format

Happy Easter

Dear Elizabeth -- this happened a bit more each time, culminating with my youngest JP. I could stomach very little and was (DAILY!) thankful for my dh who can cook better than I can and doesn't mind helping out. Once I had JP, though, I was right back with all my favorites. But during .... .... all I could manage was a bit of pasta and ONE! cup of coffee a day... (veggies and fruit of course) -- but we were in Austria, for pete's sake, and I couldn't even look at, let alone eat the desserts!

Good thing we're going back, huh ?

Bottom-line -- this too shall pass (until you get pregnant again )

Thanks Elizabeth,
It's totally true.
My son literally started naming everything I had ever burnt. I didn't remember the toast on the cookie sheet outside. He had to remind me.

Lovely blog, Elizabeth - and a yummy Easter feast!

We had a BBQ and lots of salads and some homemade Aussie damper.

Helen, your blog on burnt toast was very funny. I want you to know that you are not alone. I have had to carry the toaster oven out to the patio in flames at least twice---the timer doesn't work and I always forget I started it.

When my oldest was 7yo, I brought some rather crispy grilled cheese to the lunch table and told her I was sorry I had burnt it. She smiled sweetly and replied, "It's okay, Mommy, I don't mind....I'm used to it." Ouch.

I'm not really that bad of a cook, but I can say with all certainty that I will never have a food blog. I am really enjoying all of yours though---please keep sharing!

I just posted a yummy Buttermilk Pie Recipe that my neighbor gave me after my daughter was born.

I love reading everyone's recipes!

LOLOL, just read your post, Helen! Hilarious! Though I have to admit this still happens in this food blogger's kitchen. (well, not anymore, since we can't have bread )
