Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I just got off the phone with the author herself! There was a glitch when I ordered my book so I finally called the number associated with my transaction and spoke with Mary's husband. He was profusely sorry that the error had occured and promised to remedy it.

Two hours later his wife called me back to assure me it's being taken care of and we chatted a bit about the book and her publisher (she is doing all the marketing herself: it's the college fund for her kids!). Really, really nice and accomodating people!!! And this isn't to mention how great the book is in and of itself!

I was not remotely interested in reading the book at first. The title and topic was a turnoff to my very pragmatic mind that wasn't particularly interested in "fashion". But I had to read it because we used the book as a spine for a presentation we gave the teen girls at my church. I was engrossed! It is very, very good! It's nice to know that the author is Catholic but the writing in the book deals with modesty and fashion in a sensible way, not a religious way.

I bought two copies, one to keep and one to loan out because I know so many women who could benefit from reading this!

One important note: Do NOT try to buy the book through amazon. You'll only find 3rd party merchants charging an outrageous price.

Buy it directly from the author at:http://www.isyfashion.com/gallery.html

She'll sign it and ship it for a TOTAL of $20. This is a very worthy purchase!

I just wrote to Mary asking what the cost is to ship her book to Canada! Thanks Ellie for reminding me about it. I had wrote it on my "wishlist" and I think "it's time"

p.s. I told her it was you who convinced me to buy it

With the change in seasons, I'm going through this book in a serious way. I figure if I can improve my "look" one season at a time, I can manage without feeling overwhelmed. It is really making me conscious of so many important details that go into looking nice. This is a great boon to me - after 20 years either pregnant or nursing (during which "utilitarian" was the key word in my wardrobe), and now being "a woman of a certain age", I desperately need to rethink how I present myself to my husband, my family, and the world at large. I'm finding this book so helpful!

Peace,
Nancy

I am seriously fashion impaired. I also have a very very tight budget. Would you recommend this book, or do you have to have some inkling of fashion to appreciate it? I read the author blog last night and it was like trying to read a foreign language. She was talking about trying to decide what shoes to wear to something, and I never have that problem. I have one pair of cold weather shoes, one pair of warm weather shoes, one pair of boots, and one pair of muck shoes.

However, I have been more "in the world at large" this past year, and a wonderful lady from church pulled me aside. She so sweetly told me that I look too plain.

Michelle, the book includes an entire section on how to plan a wardrobe on a budget.

One of the keys that has helped me is to have basic wardrobe pieces that are timeless and utilitarian and cost effective. And then to put more money into little things like accessories. Accessories are cheaper and they have the ability to really change up a wardrobe... it is a very cost effective way to add some character to your clothing if you suffer from plainness. I can be found often in a plain, dark skirt, basic colored top and then add some flair with a fun or pretty scarf around my neck or tied as a headband in my hair.

I would definitely recommend this book ESPECIALLY if you are fashion impaired and have a tight budget. You need to make sure you are getting the most bang for your buck and she'll help you do that.

I have to control my thoughts now as I see women and think "Boy, she is sure wearing the wrong color palette..." or "Her body type would really do much better in this..."

This is why I'm eager to have a loaner book on hand. It would indeed make a great gift.

I'm with you Nancy.. pregnant and/or nursing for the last 15 years and clothes not only for access and comfort for the baby but also for chasing toddlers..

I think I'll wait for my birthday next summer to ask for this though.. give me a bit of time to finish up this pregnancy and recover a bit.

I am reading this book and it feels like I am reading a foreign language. I need help! In the section on finding your fashion personality, I scored the same in every category then read the paragraph that said no one ever scores the same in every category. In the section on color, I can't figure out what color palette I am.

The only thing I think I have figured out for sure is that I am boxy.

And that I am shopping averse...
