Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

A friend's son was selling pasta in fun shapes for a robotics fundraiser, and I bought one package of basketball pasta and one of "tailgate" (football) pasta.

I'd like to build gift baskets around them, but I don't want them to be 1) too heavy, as I have to mail them! and 2) too expensive, as I have to factor in the mailing costs.

So, assuming I don't include real footballs and basketballs, what could I put into the baskets? Sports-themed napkins? Towels? Other food?

All ideas welcome.

Are these specific teams, or generic basketball or football? You could make it a tailgate basket, or a "game-day party basket" (everyone coming over to watch the game).

I ask because we have received pasta in the shape of the Penn State Nittany Lion.

Sports themed napkins, towels, plates, cups (disposable or not)

Bottle opener, dip bowl, chips bowl, platter (there are some fun ones in the shape of footballs). Now you could go breakable or plastic. Unfortunately most are made in China.

dry ingredients for a favorite dip

can coolers

tablecloths (perhaps disposable?) or picnic blanket to put on the ground?

If you are getting team specific, a pennant

what do you envision this for? using at a party watching a game on tv? for a tailgate party?

I'm thinking what about things like a team banner or a foam #1 to hold up and wave about?

game on tv.. what about banners to hang up and napkins and cups and some recipes (one for sure that uses the pasta) any lightweight shelf stable ingredients besides the pasta..

All of this sounds great. The football pasta may end up in a team specific basket (Carolina Panthers), but the basketball one would be more generic.

I had not thought of dip mixes, etc.

All the ideas are great!

Jenn, I may be able to work around the China thing by finding items in consignment shops or similar places.

What about those fancy tooth picks (with the glittery fluff on top) in team colors? They are fun to use to decorate sandwiches, etc.

MIcrowave popcorn or drink mixes might also work.

A basic apron in team colors or sports fabric would be fun for grilling/cooking. The plain butcher style apron is very simple to make, as are sports-theme pillow cases for kids.

Sometimes you can find sports socks at the Dollar Store

keychains, pencils... you might have to go to a team shop for those, though
