My husband has never really been involved that much in HSing decisions. He went to a convention with me and went to talks, looked at curricula, etc. However, he has never really shown much of an interest in what we used or how it was going. He is off this week so he is seeing more of school. He asked me about a couple of things today. He didn't think that our handwriting program had enough practice (he remembers doing a whole front and back side of each page with the same letter in school) and he also was worried about the dictation DS5 did for AAS because he wrote some of the letters incorrectly.

I explained that I didn't want to dismiss his feelings, but I told him that I thought there was enough handwriting practice because his hand gets tired and he gets sloppy after awhile. They also review the letters the kids have learned in future lessons (it is First Start Reading by Memoria Press). Also, I specifically told DS5 that he didn't have to worry about how he wrote his letters during the dictation because he was worrying about the spelling. I was going to just let him spell the words with the tiles, but he wanted to write them on paper. He didn't reverse letters or anything, but some of the letters clearly weren't written the way the book teaches.

Anyway, I want DH to have input into schooling and I don't want to offend him. I do think I have valid reasons here, but maybe I am totally off base. He wasn't upset or anything. He was just making sure that DS5 was getting a good education.

I just wouldn't worry about a 5 year old's handwriting.

I encourage mine to take his time and do his best when copying, but I do agree with you that it is a lot to ask a 5 year old to copy via dictation AND form his letters correctly.

Is your husband still in disagreement after you shared your reasoning? I agree that it is frustrating when dh won't help you decide but then appears to criticize the choices you make. However, it is my experience that once my reasons are given (and dh goes back to work

), it ceases to be an issue if I don't make it one.
