Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

to keeping the house clean:

STAY HOME!

Yesterday and today we've had two completely "at home" days. And the house looks great! We worked together on the laundry and the picking up so I could vacuum. I took the time to clean up the kitchen after meals rather than just throwing the dishes in the sink because we were in a rush to go someplace. After we finished a puzzle we put it away (after taking a picture for daddy)rather than leaving it for "later". And so on.

Jennifer, I know *just* what you mean! Wednesday is our ONE "Home Day" (no therapy appts., no coop, just us home all day) and I always feel like cancelling ALL lessons so we can just CLEAN all day!

Apparently, she agrees with you at Large Family Logistics today.

I wanted to add that I'm a better mom when we're not out running around-I tend to get cranky with the getting in and out of the car, figuring out how to get three kids and the groceries in the cart (and in the car!), etc. etc. When we're at home and things start getting bad it's much easier for me to keep myself together. I had a dream last night that we won the lottery and had to decide what lifestyle changes we would make with the money. In the dream we kept that same house and furniture, the only change was we hired someone to run all the errands (and to clean the bathrooms!)
Well, gotta run. We're off to Target (so much for dreams!) Last minute Easter prep and then to church.

Oh, dear, we must be unusual - we make MORE mess when we are home but work more efficiently in the morning on outings days - just so we have a nice neat home to return to.

I was beginning to think I was the only one! We make way more mess when at home! If we are out, then things stay clean! We tend to try to clean up at the end of the day, so if we are gone all day, it is still clean from the night before.

Certainly the house stays cleaner when no one is in it (at least that is what I tell myself when I see how clean the homes of my neighbors with kids in school all day manage to keep their houses clean.

But...when our schedules are crammed and we're coming and going at all hours of the day--with unmoveable deadlines for getting out of the house--the house gets disorganized quickly. If it is a nature outing that I've planned, I can be sure that we stay until the house is tidy and leave at a normal pace. But if it's an obligation with other families or organized events and we "HAVE TO GET IN THE VAN RIGHT THIS MINUTE! " things go downhill rapidly. My kids call me "Monk." I need my days to move in a predictable rhythm. And I really do need order.

We have order...I order people around all the time...

Seriously, our home stays cleaner when we're not in it...

Once, a neighbor girl came over. She goes to school and after-school care. She said, "Mrs. Peceli, how come your house is always so messy?"    I said, "Because we live here."

Oh, well. Now we just play outside with her....

We make a mess when we are home, but we are here to clean it up. When we have to be out, everything is a "lick and a promise." When home, there's so much catching up to do the house looks worse. Laundry piles up, kitchen dishes, mail. I know what you mean, Jennifer!

And not being home enough there's not enough time to get into a routine of cleaning -- just catch-up! There's a little "Monk" in me, too, Elizabeth. I

After a rough Lent, the Triduum promised that Easter day was going to be good...I was able to spend special time with my son to teach about the Passion and Resurrection, made some projects, but also have fabulously clean counters and floors and laundry all caught up! All this while we were home taking care of the recuperating ds!

Christ is Risen, Alleluia, Alleluia!
He is risen, indeed, Alleluia, Alleluia!

Oh, I know and understand completely. I cannot survive without our rhythms.

It's such a catch-22 isn't it?

If we are at home, I feel I have the time and energy to focus on housekeeping, but we also make new messes through the day. If we are out, obviously the house stays status quo, but my routines seem to fly out the window.

I try to tidy the house a few times throughout the day; of course this kind of cleaning, as dh puts it, is like shoveling in a snowstorm!
