Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Can any of you ladies point me in the right direction?

I have a dear friend whose daughter (11.5 yrs) is struggling with anxiety and a big part of it is centered around fear of death and doubt of God/heaven. Her mom is asking for any ideas or resources or anything that might help her daughter or help her as a mom to help her daughter?

I have thanatophobia and live with a persistant anxiety and terror of death - any death, not just me and my loved ones - and this is despite that fact that I believe in God and heaven. So I really feel for this young lady. I will pray for her.

It is very hard for me to find solace or reassurance in anything, since death is obviously non-negotiable and obviously traumatic to the bereaved and can be traumatic to the dying. One thing that has been a HUGE help to me was speaking to a priest who is also a psychologist. He told me that in Gethsamene, Jesus experienced dread and terror of death also but overcame it, and that I can in spirit go to Jesus and console Him in His agony. That actually really helps me, as I can breathe through a panic attack, saying "Jesus this is for you" and that is helpful to me. The other thing that has helped me is to really fall in love with Mary as my tender Mother who will come to me and gather me in her arms when the time for death comes.

Anyway, I will pray for her. Bless her heart. I do think that being more aware of death and struggling with it can be a grace, and has helped my faith, but I am an adult not a little girl.
