Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am curious how many computers you own. I used to think that the two my 7 kids shared were adequate but now one is really slow and increasingly people are waiting in line to finish writing assignments and such. My high schooler does about 75% of his work on the computer now so he really needs one a good part of the morning. I am pondering whether to pick up another laptop or desktop on craigslist but do not want to have wall-to-wall computers either! Happy 4th all.

Between the two adults and 4 kids at home we have 3 computers(two laptops and a netbook). I am actually thinking we need one more dedicated computer for the under 10 crowd (3 kids) because dh often takes his laptop to the office with him, leaving us with only one laptop and a netbook for the 5 of us, which is ok, but not ideal. Thankfully they are coming down in price and you can get one fairly cheaply now, as long as you don't need too many bells and whistles.

We have three for seven people, one desktop (Internet connected, used by parents and younger children when going online), one old laptop (used for educational games), and one Internet linked netbook for my oldest's use (and occasionally parents).

The netbook actually lives in a bookcase with my oldest's other schoolbooks when not in use and she normally uses it in a armchair with a lapdesk. The laptop is used at the dining room table and is put away on a shelf when not in use as I don't want wall to wall computers either.

3 laptops and a desktop which is ancient and really isn't used for anything other than a backup source right now. We'll probably get rid of the desktop in the next few years.

My dh and I each have a laptop, and the children all share one laptop for educational purposes. The children each have their own password protected account on the learning room laptop. We're considering an ipad for the oldest child because she does more and more writing which means the other children can't get on the laptop when needed - maybe this year, haven't decided yet and I spend F-OR-E-V-E-R considering decisions like this.

How do you feel your laptops hold up with the kidos vs desktops? We too have an ancient desktop that probably needs to go. The kids are sharing a computer with me which I do not like too much

I MUCH prefer laptops to desktops because of how self-contained they are and how little footprint they take up as well as how portable they are. Ours hold up well, but we have RULES for their use:

** They live in common areas (not in anyone's bedroom) - on a small wooden table in the learning room.
** The laptop may be moved from the little table (where it lives primarily and is attached to its charging cable) to another table or desk nearby, but it may NOT be taken out of common areas (living room, learning room, kitchen) without permission.
** You must carry with the lid closed and using both hands.
** You WILL wash your hands before you touch the laptop!!
** You may not leave the laptop unattended while you are still logged in to your account - lest a younger brother or sister find your account open and modify it, an act for which Mom is not responsible.
** Mom assigns passwords for accounts.

We're trying to figure this out, too. Right now - 1 desktop which is in the shop with a virus and my laptop. I'm trying to talk dh into getting another laptop because my older kids are doing more and more work on computer.

WOW!! Has anyone seen the bank of computers on the 19 Kids and Counting show? I'm sure they have a LOT.

We currently have 2 desktops for 2 adults, 2 kids in school (preschooler and infant don't need one ) I'm feeling ancient!
