Moving this over from the Beauty thread.
I started using it this year. Although I don't think I have worn it in the last two months, crazy life . I like it. So who else uses it and what is your experience with it?

I bought a whole kit and caboodle after Katie was born and sent it back. I couldn't get it to look right. For me, it was anything but simple. After reading the rave reviews on the beauty thread, I'm thinking I'm makeup-challenged and need to go to Mary Chris' house for alesson .

Well, I am makeup-challenged also. But when I wear the Bear Minerals I like it and I think I have it figured out. I just don't like the mess it leaves on the counter.

I bought a starter kit at Ulta right before the last baby was born. I really like the way it looks, but it does seem to take me a while to get it on with enough coverage in the right places. What I've ended up doing lately is using regular foundation (I think it's Loreal True Match) in the places I feel I need the extra coverage, then using the Mineral Veil over all my face.

I tried it and my pores on my nose and cheeks looked huge

I was really sad, as my skin is super sensitive, and I was really hoping this would work.

I have seen the info-mercials that have Melissa Gilbert in them -- I think it is called Sheer Cover...and I have considered trying it, but really doubt the results would be much different.

The key seems to be to wear the special skin prep they sell- its call revver upper or vitamins or something?

I have large pores and I hated BM the first time bc I had the pore issue and it did magnify it. I was bummed bc its expensive (at least in my budget.)

But once I used the other goop it fixed it. I think it has silicone or something that smooths your skin's surface.

Also, I found out I was using too much at first.

I have to be careful bc even the lightest color is a bit dark so too much looks fake.

if you have a pore issue I can also recommend the clinique product called pore minimiser, aka spackle. Its light flesh coloured stuff and its amazing.

BM is the first makeup i have ever liked. i don't have big pores, but i do have blotchy skin - especially with pregnancy spots. so, i'm looking for even skin tone with the make up and am thrilled with the results. i do use the revver upper stuff beforehand. my kit was $60 but it seems to require very little makeup - and $60 that i actually use is way better than a bunch of $10 bottles of stuff that i toss out. i also use an under eye concealor that rocks - yves st laurent touche eclat. it's also expensive ($40) BUT it lasts for a year and gets rid of my dark circles.

I have not heard of the revver upper stuff. I don't think I have large pores would I still benefit from using it?

I think its good for most people, marychris, as it smoothes out the surface really well. But then again if you are happy with your results why change anything?

I just found the little sample packet of Vitamins cream or whatever it's called, this morning. I used it and the results of the Bare Minerals is much better. I wonder how much the full size of that stuff is...I guess I'll have to check it out!

I have never heard of this makeup. Can someone tell me what the selling points are?

I haven't worn make-up since high school. My husband really doesn't like it and that was one of the things that attracted him to me. But as the wrinkles increase and I am perpetually tired, I have considered something to "perk" me up a little. Honestly, I wouldn't know where to start at this point.

My mom has never worn make-up but I don't think she even started aging until she hit her sixties. And that was with raising 6 wild boys and not-so-perfect me during the crazy 70's and 80's! She never used anything more than Oil of Olay.

Try putting it on in the car! My husband was even less pleased with my mess as he was as he was about the kids snacks from the back seats when vacuuming the vehicle .

I like the Bare Minerals, but I sort of gave up on it. I have used Mac Studio Fix powder makeup since 1995! I am rather fair skinned and everything is either too dark or too yellow on me. I am sure MAC would be on the boycott list as they once had a cross dresser as their spokesperson, among others.   For the past few years, I have purchased mine new, but for less $ on eBay.

On a shopping trip to a "real" mall (I live in a rural area), I discovered Sephora. The kids called it Mommy's candy store ! I found the most incredible stuff for under foundation. It is called Smashbox Photo Finish Foundation Primer. It makes the little lines smoother looking and any dry/flaky patches are smoothed over so there is no foundation pull.   I use it with the Studio Fix as well this sheer foundation from Origins which I like because I cannot stand the gloppy goupy foundation feel I get from most all foundations.

Blessings,

Okay....I just found this thread and am psyched! I am one of those who loves Bare Minerals makeup. Ha! So....If anyone wants to revive this thread, let's go. I need something "light" in my life----things are SO serious, aren't they? We need distractions.

(I don't always get a chance to put makeup on, but when I do, now it is Bare Escentuals because it looks natural, is oil-free, and actually tends to clear up my skin.... and I have terrible skin from my earliest years.}

So, let me know if you want to discuss this topic. Nice diversion!!!

After reading the frump thread, I called my mother who is much more into makeup than I am (is that weird or what??? ) and asked her if she knew what Bare Minerals was. Turns out that's all she uses too and she swears by it.

She thinks I'm weird for being so makeup challenged and was thrilled that I was finally showing interest. She bought me one of their starter kits that includes the revver upper for my birthday. I *love* it. It takes me less than 5 minutes to put on the basics and a coat of mascara. Dh says he can't tell the difference before or after makeup but I have noticed that I get a lot more spontaneous "you look nice today" compliments.

I have dry skin. If I don't use a quality moisturizer it doesn't look good. Its also way too easy to use too much. Less is more. A big benefit to the starter kit is the dvd on application that comes with it. As I said, I am challenged when it comes to makeup. The last time I wore makeup daily I was 16 and wearing lavendar eye shadow and purple mascara . Needless to say my techniques are seriously out of date. The DVD was a lifesaver for me.

Where can you get a kit? Is it online or a place like Walmart?

I got mine at Sephora. It was $60 (ouch!) but I think most of it (except maybe the revver upper) will last a year, which makes it a bit more affordable.

Try www.sephora.com.

One more question. How on earth do you know what color to get? I noticed there is light, deep, dark, etc. I don't want to spend $60 and get the wrong color.

I got mine at Ulta for $45. I chose the Light, because the salesperson at Ulta told me the colors run a little dark. I have medium-light skin, but I prefer the lightest color of Bare Minerals foundation.

The lady at Sephora told us that fair skin with yellow undertones does best with light (me) and fair skin with pink undertones (my mom) does best with medium. I'm sorry I don't know about other skin tones. My mom is a redhead with green eyes. My heritage is half British half Danish so I have very fair skin, too.

Each kit comes with two shades in the same family. I actually mix the two (very easy because its a powder). I could probably use the lightest shade without a problem but I can't see a perfectly good tub of expensive foundation go to waste.

I agree, Nina, things ARE so serious. And I DO have a make up question and more convo:

Has anyone found an eye shadow that does not crease?

I finally found a mascara that does not run; it is Neutrogena Clean Lash Tint. It is marketed toward contact lense wearers and I do not wear contacts. Maybe "run" isn't the right word, it also does not flake.

Did you notice how many take-offs there are of the Bare Minerals make up? I try not to spend much on makeup, so am determined to find a knock-off that works. Right now I am using Physician Formula's Mineral Wear Mineral Foundation and the talc-free Mineral Wear Loose Mineral Powder. And it did happen that I have received compliments on my makeup when I made this change.
http://www.physiciansformula.com/l_eng/mw_index.asp

I don't want to have to go to a "special" store to buy makeup. I prefer to buy at Walmart or Target. My sister introduced me to Wet'N'Wild's lipsticks, because she said they have real holding power and are sold for a pittance. Well I had my newest Wet'N'Wild color on and stopped at the Clinique makeup counter in the mall. Which I never do because, as I said, I prefer convenience and am cheap. The Clinique saleslady compliments my lipstick and asked if it was Clinique's. I had to stiffle a laugh because Wet'N'Wild is something like $1 per lipstick.

As long as I'm talking away, another favorite of mine are makeup blotting tissues. Here's one, but not a brand I've tried
http://www.ulta.com/control/product/~product_id=2117998

Hope to hear about eye shadow you love!
