Does anyone have any tips, tricks or advice for making a video suitable to put on youtube or a website?

I found what youtube recommends for size and clarity, etc. (although I really don't know what too much of it means yet!).
I have a Mac and I know they have video editing software, that I would need to learn to use.

What I am not sure of right now is the best device to shoot the video? My computer? itouch? Other??

As you can see I am pretty green and just looking to gain as much knowledge before I delve into this.
