this pm we took a nap and when we woke up i smelled some gas in the house. didn't realize i had left the smallest burner on without a flame. our carbon monoxide detector didn't go off, but we can smell it in some of the rooms. we've turned on fans, the attic fan included, the stove vent, etc. and opened windows and doors. dh has told me to leave the house with the kids for a while. but i don't know how long we should be gone. hubby doesn't get home 'til 11 tonight. what do you think?

it just needs time to air out.. I wouldn't think you'd need to be gone longer than an hour or two.

Maybe call the gas & electric company. They could probably give you some direction.

I'm thinking I'd probably grab the kids, load them up, and go run an errand or two while the windows are open and any fans you might have in the house are on to help air things out and move the gas out. I'd probably head back within a couple of hours and close things up.
Stef! Unsettling, I'm sure!

And it smells sooo , too! A good airing out is undoubtedly the best remedy. Calling the gas company for advice is a great idea, too. Praying everything settles down. Why, oh why, do these kinds of things always happen when we are flying solo?
Peace,
Nancy

I'm back in the house with the kids. We left for several hours. No more smell. I haven't used the stove though, we bought Chinese. JUST IN CASE.
I'm just so thankful I woke up from my nap! I don't usually nap 2 hours in the afternoon so it must have been the gas. Otherwise the kids would not have noticed it and maybe would have napped themselves and then.... [shudder]
God is good.
Thank you for your advice and prayers!
