Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am need of some laundry advice. I brought out my bin of baby clothes this week to wash and get ready for this little one. Many of the clothes are 10 or more years old and many have discoloration and stains. I tried soaking for hours in OxyClean, but it didn't help. Everything is pink so I can't just bleach. Is there something else I can try soaking them in? Or is it hopeless with clothes that old?

As it is, this baby will not be able to wear most of my baby girl clothes because the seasons will be off. My last spring baby was 10 years ago!

I've had a lot of success with Biz. I use very hot water, and let it soak at least overnight. Good luck with it..it's frustrating how those clothes you pack away clean come out all stained

this isnt the answer to your question but

kohls has carters 1/2 off all the time when they have sales. I bet you could get a whole entire new layette for what it would cost to buy and try a bunch of new stain removers. (can you tell I just spent $5 on Kaboom to clean my tub? I am bitter about the cost of cleaning agents! it did work tho, in case your tub is grubby...)

I think carbona stain devils are good for old stains. they have one for milk and one for blood and one for protein and etc...

I once heard of this for whitening antique lace. Do a test first. It worked great for a stained lace collar I had once.

Make a paste of dishsoap and chlorox2 or biz.

Apply to stains and leave overnight.

Seriously test first as it could brighten those areas more than the rest of the garment.

If the clothes are ruined anyway, I would try diluted bleach. Many clothes are colorfast and it doesn't effect their color when added to a large bunch of water.

If you can wait until more intense sunlight (summer) hang them wet in the sun.

Molly,

When you soaked in Oxyclean, did you include laundry detergent, also? It needs both to really get the stains out.

I'm adding another addendum...I always use more Oxyclean than one scoop....I'm very generous. Add a bit of detergent and soak, soak, soak.

I just wanted to second the idea of using Biz on colored clothing. We received lots of used clothing when my youngest girls were born. I soaked the stained clothes overnight in Biz and the stains came out.      I've also used Oxyclean with success on whites.

I use 1C Clorox II and 1C dishwasher detergent in 5 gallons very, very hot water and soak overnight and it gets out 90% of even old stains.

I've also heard that making a paste of meat tenderizer and water and rubbing it into the stain will work, but I've never tried it.

Good luck!
