Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Here I am happy as a clam in south Texas for the past four years. My dh retires in two years, so we could just wait it out here. But, my mom has been in failing health (she's 85) and we are feeling called to do more to help her out. She is in New York. So - my dh put his feelers out to see where the Army might be able to send him. So - yesterday the option of Fort Dix was presented. I would appreciate any thoughts on the area, parishes, etc. This is far from a done deal. My dh would really be sacrificing quite a bit - it would be doing something he really does not like to do. We would be moving kids from friends, etc. We would be leaving a wonderful parish. I hate the cold. My dh hates traffic and the cold. But, I feel if we don't act know it will be too late and I will have regrets. Thanks for any input.

Mary, I don't know much about NJ, but we will be moving there this spring or summer. If we both end up there, we can help each other throughthe transition. I'll pray for your intentions...

I don't live near Ft. Dix but I might be able to help you out a little. I live in NW NJ.

If you have any questions, just let me know!

Thank you Donna Marie! Moving just keeps getting harder for me. When the kids were all little it was so much easier. I will probably have some more questions once the "orders" are cut.

Dh's office is in Mt. Laurel, so hopefully within 30 minutes of there. I'm with you, this moving thing just gets harder as I get older. I am ever so thankful that the company is moving us again...it's too hard doing it ourselves!

I am in NJ not too far from Ft. Dix (I think)...and just a few towns from Mt. Laurel. I am in Mt. Holly. CHAPLET is the name of hte local Catholic homeschool group and please if there is any info or contacts you need please ask away.

Hi Jamie - Thank you for responding! I do have a question about high schools - we are going to have to decide to homeschool my junior or put her in school. If there was a great Catholic high school - I might consider it. It is just so hard to move her and a good school might make meeting friends easier. Or are there lots of teens in the homeschool group? Academically, she will be fine either way - but likes a social life. The younger ones are not that big an issue - it is harder on the older ones to keep moving them. Thanks again.

Mary

Since my oldest is 3 I am not even sure what Catholic High Schools are around...which leads me to believe there are no good ones (otherwise I would hear them mentioned in homeschool circles). I know Bishop Eustace High School is around if you want to look that up...but I would imagine it is not that great a choice.

CHAPLET does have teen social events and there are quite a few teens. St. Peter's in Merchantville (which is a large beautiful conservative parish, they have the novus ordo and latin mass there) has an active youth group with a lot of overlap with the CHAPLET group.

I would say most of CHAPLET goes to either St. Peter's or to Mater Ecclesiae (ME is a full time Latin Mass parish that also has a lot of teens and activities....rugby, field hockey, drama club, etc) and there is also a 3 day a week co-op that is run out of ME called Holy Family Academy and they offer high school classes.

One last thing, CHAPLET has a really nice curriculum fair each spring (this year it is April 30th I believe)...it is hosted at ME. Lots of great vendors and speakers etc.

Please don't hesitate to ask any other questions. I am more than happy to help if I can!

I live in Burlington County NJ, about 25 minutes from the joint base. I did not homeschool my son who is now a college senior, but he did attend Catholic school from K4 through 12. His elementary school is now closed, but he attended Holy Cross High School which is in Delran NJ. He loved it. We loved it, so much so that my husband recently joined the Board of Trustees to ensure that it will be around for a long time. You are welcome to e-mail me if you have any questions.

I don't really have any advice since I don't live in NJ. My brother & sil live in Mt. Laurel, but he's neither Catholic nor homeschooling (their first is due around mother's day ). I only responded because I just finished reading this book and the Millman's live in Plainfield. They mention a lot of homeschooling groups and contacts in their area... and they are Catholic as well (although the book doesn't revolve around their faith).
