Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have been buying cutesy character pencils for the kids when I see them cheap, but my dd can blow through one of them in a day. They just seem to sharpen away. I thought there was something wrong with the way she was using the sharpener, but I tried and the same thing happened.

I am now looking for quality wooden pencils. I know Dixon Ticonderoga have a good reputation, but they are coated with Microban Would someone please give me a recommendation for some wooden pencils? Here is a link to writing pencils at Dick Blick. I am interested in standard diameter pencils. Thanks!

Beth

All-Natural Pencils

If you're going for as close to all-natural pencils as possible, these might do it :) They have white erasers (erase cleaner), colored metal ends (different color for each child?) and all wood barrel (no paint or finish).

These are the only pencils we use in our home - my son has recently developed a bad habit of chewing on pencils, so I'm really glad we don't have paint or anything poisonous on them!

Oh..ewww...why do I have to patrol everything? I never thought about a coating on the outside of a pencil, for goodness sake! The crunchy mama bear in me is not happy...LOL

We're completely sold on PaperMate Mirado pencils here! They hold their point well and don't split and splinter from repeated sharpening. I have gotten them at WalMart and most recently ordered a box of 72 from Amazon. Not the cheapest pencils out there, but well worth the $.

Peace,
Nancy

I got tired of the breaking/sharpening routine so I purchased the 0.9mm Alvin Draft/Matic Pencils two years ago for my boys. They have stood the test of time and abuse (my boys were 6/7 when they got them). To me it was wroth the $$$ upfront to save the hassle of not having a working pencil.

I purchase a seperate eraser for each of them and lead that I put in once a week or so.

It has been one of those investments that has saved my sanity!!!!!
