This is my first time being AMA, and I am wondering what to expect if anything to be different? I have been considered low-risk in the past, other than my grand-multipara status.

I'm sure everyone is different with this Rebecca, and I'm not sure how "advanced" your maternal age is but I am 46 and pregnant. My doctor was a little more cautious with my glucose test results (I was borderline and still had to take the 3 hour which I passed just fine thank you) but since I've not really had any problems she's lightened up a bit. Actually, for whatever reason, and I'm thinking it's just God's blessing, this has been the easiest pregnancy so far. No glucose problems, no anemia, no high blood pressure... Maybe it's because I'm more relaxed and don't sweat things so much in my "old age".
When I had my last baby at 43 she was worried that my uterus would be paper thin, but during the c-section she announced that my uterus was just fine. I think that would be an issue for those of us AMA moms, especially when we have the honor of being grand-multipara too!
Congratulations by the way!

I would just be careful being pushed into things with statistics.. some places try and scare you with things like a certain risk doubling.. but that risk may still be very low.. get real numbers not just "double" or such.

Once I hit AMA, I barely noticed a difference in treatment. The two exceptions were during the ultrasound they looked specifically for Downs Syndrome indicators and the offer for an amnio based solely on my age. I said no and the doctor apologized telling me they had to ask.

What exactly is considered "AMA"? I am 35 this time, and while oftentimes my midwives will remind me that I am getting older, my 'care' has been no different.
I agree with Jodie on this about stats. Be very careful about that. I think the biggest thing you may deal with is that it is very likely that your ob may see few to no other grand maltips. Actually, I believe at #10 your "great grand maltip"! So he/she may just not know what to do with you! LOL!

Welcome to the club, Lisa. I was told 35 is AMA.

I am 35 too!
Thanks ladies for the advice about the "doubling" statistics. I have a dear friend who is 36, who recently had a gorgeous baby, they diagnosed with Down Syndrome. May I share her blog? It's just wonderful!
The Blessing of Verity blog My friend had only ultra-sounds to diagnose, both Down Syndrome and a heart issue that required surgery.
