Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I admit it.... I've lost my supermom cape.
I'm starting to wonder.. when does homeschooling become more fun and less "Oh DINNER??? I forgot", cleaning?? don't even ask.. FUN art projects?? HAHAHA That's so far off the radar!!

We are doing Seton b/c this is our first FULL year out, and I'm scared if someone isn't telling me "do this today", ya know?

We are also doing a LOT of "fun" stuff with our homeschool group.. as in DAILY!!

So, will I find my cape? Will I EVER cook again?? We have finally caved and asked for someone to come clean 2x a month..Maybe they'll find my cape?

Homeschooling IS your supermom cape!

Yes, you will get into a groove and many days will be manageable. You may even get on top of dinner plans one day!

Your children will have a good education, your family life and learning will overlap and one day your kids will rise up and call you blessed. And it won't be because you could always get an awesome well planned dinner on the table.

You can do it!

Hmmm...I don't think I ever had a cape. How did I miss that line when they were handing them out?

Seriously, Bridget is right!

I'm thinking capes might just be figments of the imagination mostly seen by those that want to believe you have to have one before you can homeschool.

And I know that being out of the house everyday would make things impossible here. Oh I can manage some things and just running a single child to speech or something doesn't do it.. but if I had to take everyone.. you could easily add an hour before and after an event MINIMUM that wouldn't be useable time for anything.. so if I was going out for a fun thing that's 1-2 hrs long.. the real time used up by the prep and recovery.. is easily 4 hours out of my day. That's a lot of time to be gone and get anything done.

I must admit that about four fifths of the dinners made in this household are made by my husband and oldest daughter.   I must further admit that in the sixteen plus years of our marriage that I've been the sole person responsible for dinner for exactly four months (making dinner every night is NOT my strong point).

Fun art projects are the responsiblity of the children, my responsiblity is fully discharged in the provision of art supplies.

Cleaning is an ongoing uphill battle for everyone.

Regular outings are once a week and my husband takes them.

On the other hand lessons are done, children are fed by someone, everyone has clean clothes (I actually like doing laundry), we do get out of the house on a regular basis and everyone is normally healthy and happy and my older children are gaining the vital skills necessary for maintaining their own households!

I may not be supermom but I seem to be OK mom.

Dear Krystin,

I have found so much peace and organization since we switched to the Classical Liberal Arts Academy.. Within months my older children were totally independent and learning on their own. This has freed me up to handle my younger ones. It used to be my younger ones running around while I scrambled to teach my older ones.

I have also purged in a way I have never done before - think monastery. I gave away literally hundreds of books, bags of clothing, you name it.

Our days now center around the Liturgy of the Hours, at least parts of it, the Rosary, saint reading, bible reading = all the things I could never seem to fit in.

We have a schedule - like a monastery. Everyone usually moves around as a unit - for ex. we all eat pretty much at the same time, we all do school together, we all clean together. And then they have limited - very limited recreation. all the other time is scheduled.. I have learned that chores are not beneath them. Physical work is good for the body and soul. I came to discover that if I don't plan for them, they will not simply "find something to do".

As we started to get into our studies, we came to realize how much we distracted ourselves from God with all the running around, all the activities. My children, on their own, decided to get rid of game systems, the cable, sports - our home is so peaceful now. We now have time to volunteer at a food bank and a pregnancy shelter.

It's been an amazing transformation.

Denise

Well, as the quintessential family movie "The Incredibles" clearly states: NO CAPES! Too many cape-related superhero casualties!

All kidding aside, at the end of each day, in addition to (or maybe instead of)thinking about what you DIDN'T do, list all the wonderful things you accomplished with your children.

And I'm with ekbell: I'm "ok" with OK Mom.

I wanted to thank you all!! I needed a little lifting up. This has been one heck of a ride, with a 2mo baby and 4 other kids to tend to (one is a two year old who is ALWAYS getting into SOMETHING!!) I feel overwhelmed!

Crock pot needs to get some exercise I guess!!
