Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I was just wondering. I know that probably many of you read the CCL magazine. I'm a long time reader and my new issue came today. I've found myself very disappointed in the last few issues. Is it just me, or has it lost its' true Catholic flavor.
I started wondering if it's just me, am I moving on to a new stage in life, but this current issue regarding perimenopause is sadly relevant to me. But even that article mentioned that no one that they had interviewed was sad about their fertility ending. I'm having a very hard time coming to grips with that.
Anyone else notice something different about it?

Mary Ann, I totally agree with you. I am so disappointed in it. I used to read through it so quickly and always anxiously awaited the next issue. Now, I can't make it through most of the articles. I have not read an entire issue since the change. It used to be so meaty, now it has no bite. I miss it. :(

You should contact CCL Central about it. Really. Let them know what you are thinking - they would like to hear about your disappointments in specific. They NEED to hear from thoughtful concerned Catholics about such things.

I know many of the folks at Central, there are probably a number of promoters and teachers involved with this message board even, and everyone is very concerned about running CCL in the most beneficial manner and Catholic manner possible.

They will take your concerns to prayer. Many of them attend Mass daily and they pray a rosary together every day at the office.

They need to hear from you!

I really hated the first new magazine format issue, and even the last one was a disappointment. In that issue they printed a bunch of letters from people who had written in the with same concerns and addressed some of them. One thing they said was that the change in format effected publication dates so there were some usual things that had to be dropped to make the deadline. I'm trying to give it a chance, but I miss the old newsprint super Catholic newsletter.

I've definately noticed a difference, but my needs have also changed over the years.

It was that magazine that led me to explore and later accept my current parenting style of young children/babies.

I'm not sure that it has enough of what it used to have to convince a new and completely uninformed mother to parent counter-culturally. I don't know. I'm reading it with different eyes now. I'm out of the CCL loop these days.

The glossy pages certainly look more credible and competitive.

I think, for the most part, I have "outgrown" this magazine. I used to really look forward to the newsletters and saved all my old copies (they are still in the garage!) because I just loved the encouraging articles on natural mothering and breastfeeding...

Since Sheila and John Kippley stopped writing for it, I have not enjoyed it as much. I still read it, but like Sarah, I'm reading it with different eyes, now. Perhaps, at age 40, I have indeed outgrown it...And, I haven't read the perimenoupausal article, yet. I don't want to!!

Did any of you read about Bill and Jackie Logue? They used to live here in Denver. If you want to follow up on them, they have a Caring Bridge Journal page if you want to check back on them. Bill's Prayer Pager number is at the top and you can call and leave a page anytime you want to let him know you're praying for him.

Maybe that's what it is, I miss the flavor that the Kippley's gave it.

We had always used a form of NFP since we got married, but it was a Baptist woman in my La Leche group that introduced me to CCL and the Family Foundations newsletter. Through reading them, I came to a much fuller appreciation and understanding of the beauty of the Church's teachings on contraception. That was back in the late '80s. I would have to say that thru those newsletters I was inspired to grow in my faith in many ways. That's even where I first learned about Catholic homeschooling. It planted the seed, though it would be years before it came to fruition. I guess that's why I feel a little disappointed in the magazine now. Though it's still factual, to me it doesn't have as much of a Catholic feel. I remember over the years, the occasional letter mentioning how if they cut out the Catholic elements of CCL, they would have a much wider following. To me is seems like that has been done.
BTW, I'm sure that the CCL teachers and promoters are good Catholic people. As are the magazine editors.
I don't know, it's probably just me feeling perimenopausal.

i feel exactly the same about the old copies, but i don't think it's being 40 that changed my view, i think it's the content of the magazine that has changed.
