Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Do you use your children's real names in your blog?

No, I use the names of the "Little Women" girls. I wanted to use the Little House on the Prairie Children but it was taken by a fellow blogger that I used to read.

Most of the time thought I just refer to them as "the baby", "my oldest", "my 6yo" etc. It's hard for me to keep all the names straight. I have enough trouble with their REAL names, lol.

My thought is to use pseudonyms, too. Any suggestions for three little girls?

It looks like Jennifer and I cross posted the same idea! (Great minds???)

No, I don't. I enjoy confusing people ...namely myself.

Now, if you ask about using pictures...well, I wonder about it sometimes but can't seem to help myself. I try using recent photos sparingly and I think using dated pictures is key to privacy.

I love blogs that have visual and appreciate Amy Welborn's site and Danielle Bean's who share their home photos.

I think pics and real names are definitely not safe. I do want to use pics, so I think April, May and June it will be. I'll try to be generally vague about other specific details,as well. Any other safety tips I should know?
Thanks!

I don't use real names. Not exactly sure why, but am uncomfortable with it. I chose nicknames that we already used for the dc anyway. I also try only to use photos that show dc from the back or side as much as possible.

I chose not to use my dc's or dh's real names, but my name is on the blog if you look for it. I agree with not using too many recent photos, too many wierdos out there, but so far my readership has been very nice and tame. Good luck with your new venture, it's fun, and has been quite a blessing for me so far

I use pseudonyms. After giving my dd the full lecture on online safety (no real name, not making her email address public etc) when I let her set up a blog I could hardly do it any other way! Her blog is a private one for which just a few friends and family have the address, but I wanted to be sure she understood the rules anyway. I let them choose their names themselves.

I use the good old standby's of Dh, DS and DD. My name is in there somewhere, but I try to keep the kid's and DH's name out of it... and I have a lot of pictures of the kids there. How could I not? They are too cute!

I use their names and post the occasional photo. So many family members live out of state. It's nice for them to see the kids.

There are a lot of wierdos out there but there are also a lot of blogs ans websites that cater to those wierdos. I have trouble thinking of anyone googling Catholic homeschool to get pictures of my kids.

I also could never keep track of pseudonyms. I rarely ever even call any of them by the correct name as it is.

I do the same. I do not know whether it is the right choice or not . We have family members who live out of town and want to know what we are up to.

Meredith,
I have enjoy reading your lovely blog. I remember thinking what special names you have chosen for your children! (Violet was my mother's name. ) Are these pseudo-names the ones you wanted but your husband did not? I have a list of names that I chose, but dh just wouldn't.. I really loved the name Julian, but it wasn't even an option. Our fourth son's name wasn't even agreed upon until he was two days old!
If I ever post to the blog I created (last year ), our pseudo-names will be the ones I would have selected if baby naming was not a shared responsibility.

Blessings,

It is if it's right for your family. I understand people's reasons for doing it differently but personally I don't have a problem with it. Our family's pictures are right on the front page (though they are quite small). I don't use thier names often but I too have family members that read my blog and like to stay updated.

God bless!

I get so frustrated when I think one of our children is ignoring me until I figure out that I have called them by their sibling's name.. then they laugh at me.. and the grandparents chuckle even more...

Blessings,

Kristina, first thank you so much for your kind words, and I actaully don't have a problem with using my kids real names I just thought it more appropriate if I took a variation on a theme, so Violet is one of the characters in the Boxcar series, which is the first series after all the LHP books that my dd now almost 10 read at the age of 6, Violet was her favorite character and other blogs are using some of our other favs from literature so this is what I came up with, it actually fits her quite well and she loves it Matthias is for all you Redwall fans of course my ds 7's favorite character mouse (and I don't mean Mickey!). The two little ds's are a spin off of part of their names in Irish!!! My dh's mother was all Irish and she passed away when my 1st ds was born, so I thought I'd pay a tribute to her.

So there you have it! Not really all that secretive, but adds a little element of fun for me and the kids. My situation is a little different in that I have NO family that would read my blog, I haven't chosen to make it THAT public

Love the idea of using names you didn't choose for any newbies that come along. Take care and hope I answered this well enough!

The code names I use for my dc are pretty basic.

Junior is my oldest...I never liked calling a boy *Junior* and started using it with my oldest just as a ha-ha joke

Princess is my oldest dd because, well, isn't the oldest dd always the princess?

My second ds is GameBoy because he's big into games of ALL kinds.

My second dd is DQ (for Drama Queen) because she is truly dramatic and theatrical. It's her personality.

The baby of the family is Starr (short for Christmas Starr) because she's is the Christmas blessing I never thought I'd have...for more reasons than one...
