I need an idea of what to wear for a slip that is comfortable. Even some of my denim skirts/dresses need slips under them and right now my hips and stomach are getting super sensitive(another of those reasons *I* think it's going to be a girl, since I had the same symptom with 1st dd, even if the doctor laughs ).
So anyway, I've tried rolling the waistband of the slip so it wouldn't be scratchy.... still very uncomfortable. Then I tried a thin skirt that can't be worn on it's own.... that was uncomfortable, and HOT. Any ideas where I can get a cheap and comfortable alternative. I thought of a full slip, but I find them very uncomfortable and binding, esp, with a skirt and blouse.
Help???Anyone??
Oh the joys of pregancy! Isn't it great that we kind of loose our memories of how truly bad the symptoms are when we look back later, that we can't actually feel them then? It sure helps to be open to life again. And then the rewards of a sweet little bundle after the birth! I always look forward to holding the baby, and then the first meal afterwards. That meal tastes better than any meal ever to me, because I don't have heart burn or nausea!

So you have a maternity slip, but the band is uncomfortable? or just wearing anything around that area is uncomfortable?
I have a crazy suggestion, but have you tried inside out for the slip, so the smooth side of the stitching is facing you? Otherwise if you go with the half slip, it sounds like you need an encased waistband.
I'd also think of going up some sizes so it is held up by your stomach, but not really hugging your skin.

Oh, and I hear you about being hot. Is the slip for coverage or clinginess?
I would try to find a smooth cotton or a cooler new fabric (wicking, like microfiber) and make a slip. Have the waistband so it encloses the elastic.

I had a maternity full slip, so no binding around the waist. It was nylon, though, so not too helpful on hot days.
Peace,

I absolutely-positively-emphatically cannot stand anything tight or binding or itchy or elastic on or around my tummy when pregnant. I guess it's a sensitivity thing with me??? Or...maybe I'm just weird!
So...I found a solution and I'll happily share it in case it might work for you. I purchase full size slips (not half slips) in the larger woman's sizes. I'm normally a med (sz 8), so I can purchase a full slip in an XL and wear it and it works PERFECTLY! If it's too long, cut off the bottom!
I learned that this works great in the winter as well with things like tights. I don't bother buying maternity tights. I just buy regular tights in the store, but I buy 3 sizes up - so usually an XL, and they fit great!
and lots of empathy from here, Pilgrim!

What about attaching the slip to a top that can be cut away.. sorta like wearing it with suspenders but that way the waist can be completely loose and you're not wearing a full double top either.
My favorite thing to wear in early pregnancy is jumpers.. they're usually loose and I can change them around with tops a bit.. and there is nothing on my waist!

If YOU are weird, than I am REALLY WEIRD!
I too can't stand ANY elastic on my rapidly growing tummy..I can't even say waist anymore..haha!
I have just simplified my wardrobe to one denim jumper and I just keep changing the shirts for church and I wear cotton sweats the rest of the time with over-sized shirts. I know, terribly feminine, but it is comfortable and I can move without tripping on anything after accelerating from 0-60 after my toddler. I am weird, I don't like shorts...even while hugely pregnant in the summer...so yea, I am really weird. Any waistbands I just push down under my belly and roll them a bit if I have to.
and this is coming from a lady who is 32 weeks pregnant!

An off the top of my head suggestion - can you purchase a belly band or use an old t-shirt to make a 'band'(you may have to snug it up a bit, but I have done this before to make maternity skirts and it works great.) then cut off the top of the slip and sew on the band? Here is a tute for a super easy maternity skirt, it may give you a better idea of what I'm talking about:

Thank you all for the wonderful ideas, I now have some very doable ideas to help deal with this problem, and the suggestions even sparked some ideas of my own! Thanks again!
