Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone have one of those cheaper temporary above ground pools? If so, how do you keep it from being a drowning hazard for little people? Do you like it? What else can you tell me about yours?

We had an Intex pool(12 ft) for years when the kids were little and we LOVED it. We had a big yard so put it way back near the woods--some might like it close to the house to see it, but this worked for us. My dh ran an electrical line hundreds of feet from the house to the pool for the filter, and nicely put a switch to turn it on and off in the basement so we didn't have to walk all the way out to it to turn it on and off.
When the kids were in the pool, we were there and they knew not to go in unless they were supervised. It also had a cover, which, since it was near the woods, needed to be put on after use so tree stuff didn't get in. That was also a small deterrent from falling in.
It was a few hundred dollars well spent and that pool went on to service 2 other families. We have moved up to a "real" above ground. A little more work, I miss my Intex days. At the end of the season just dump it out, dry it out, and it is waiting for warm weather again.

A lot of it will depend on your children and how much caution you can count on. I contemplated one before and realized taht I'd need it surrounded by a fence with planter boxes along the top outside full of thorny things (cacti, blackberries etc) so that climbing would be naturally discouraged.

My children LOVE the water and have NO caution around it.

Also, you need to consider if you live in a location where without a fence and locked gate if it would be considered a hazard and what your liability might be if a neighbor child wandered into your yard.. or even came in purposely to check out the pool etc.

I second checking your your town's zoning laws. Some require a completely fenced yard for any pool of a certain size.
God bless,
