I looked back and reread the posts regarding Lisa's question on their anniversary. With our 25th coming up in May, I was wondering, what do you all do for those "big" anniversaries? Do you go ahead and make the "major" plans, or do you let dh make that choice? What sorts of gifts (the type you can buy ) have you given? Has anyone put together any sort of memory book?
I am so plum out of ideas.
God Bless,
Stacy in MI

Congratulations Stacy!
For our 25th anniversary we took a family trip to a tiny little cabin hidden away on a tiny little lake. The first night we discovered mice (I'm deathly afraid of mice) and things were somewhat cramped, but it was one of our most memorable family vacations!!! I remember giving dh a recording of our favorite music, from the time we were dating. Later, after our vacation, we were treated to a special family dinner at the home of my in-laws. During that same year, an unknown benefactor paid our way on a pilgrimage to Medjugorje....we even had our marriage blessed during a special Mass at St. James' Church.
We ended up celebrating our 25th anniversary many different ways throughout that year! Sharing this just in case it helps to think of marking this momentous anniversary all throughout the year. Having a Mass said in honor of your anniversary might be meaningful. I'm not sure, but I think I've heard of people sending to the Vatican for a papal blessing for special anniversaries. For us, the highlights of our 25th anniversary year were definitely the blessing of the pilgrimage and our first grandchild being born at the close of that year! Hope you are just as blessed and that God grants you and your dh many, many more years of blessings and grace in your life together!

I asked my local hs group for some get-away recommendations, and many suggested a little island in Lake Erie that sounded very neat...until one of the dad's described a local curiosity, "Lake Erie water snakes are indigenous, populous and seeing them swim with their heads 18” out of the water is extremely weird." I feel for snakes what you feel for mice!! (Although, I am not exactly fond of them, either.)
I think it would be fun to have a year-long celebration! Your 25th sounds incredible!
Thanks for the ideas.
God Bless,
Stacy in MI

Have you and your DH ever renewed your vows? When my husband and I did this for our 20th annniversary, I was surprised at my emotional reaction! Saying those words at age 22, with so little living under our belts, and then saying them again twenty years later when I actually knew what I was getting myself into were completely different experiences.
It definitley had a much more profound meaning the second tme around.
We had a private Mass here at home with our closest friends and family here and then served a really nice dinner to all. It was a lovely evening and we even managed to have all the groomsmen back to 're-pose" for some of those pictures. It was alot of fun dragging out the albums and reminiscing.
I also love the idea of celebrating all year. Maybe a special date night each month would be a way to make the whole year memorable.

Hey Stacy we're celebrating 25 years in May as well (the 6th)! Just last night dh was trying to find a hotel as we are going back to where we spent our honeymoon. I never know what to give my dh as a gift as he's pretty much the minimalist type that doesn't ever want or need anything. Or what he would like we cannot afford (think sports car here ).
Personally I'm just looking forward to a few days away to relax. My older kids will be taking care of the youngers and I am confident they know how to handle things (especially with the diabetics) but we'll only be a few hours away in case they need us.
I am also hoping we can renew our vows -this time in the Extraordinary Form since that's what we regularly attend.

Congrats Stacy!! I realize I never updated my post!! We had the most incredible time. I realized that while I often work so hard on being 'present' to my children, I never really done this for my husband.
The night away was exactly what I needed to remind me of this. It was a Friday so we went to stations and mass at our parish - causing a stir because we were there alone! LOL! Then we went out to dinner, a local family owned bar for a night cap, and then back to the Inn. My husband went all out showering me with thoughtful little gifts along the way. I got him and old fashion shaving mug/brush and razor with some homemade soap bars I made with my favorite manly scents. When he shaves each morning with it, the smell reminds me very vividly of that night.
We even brought a little 'souvenir' home. (see my sig line! LOL!)
Have fun!!
