Hey Ladies!
My hubby is retiring from the Marines in 7 months and we are starting to look at where to move. He is looking for a goverment job and so that gives us quite a few places to choose from. We are looking at N. VA, but it looks so exspensive! VA is still an option but I would like to get some feedback from you guys on other parts of the country so we can start narrowing some things down. We already have determined that having Latin Mass available daily would be our first choice, we would also consider a very reverant NO. I really don't know of any parishes that have that (nice NO) except what I have seen on EWTN. Homeschooling laws play a huge part in our choice as well. Oh and please don't be offended but we don't want to move to FL or very southern climates. It's the humid southern places that we don't want to go to. I don't do well with a lot of humdity! I was however looking at N. AL as well and was wondering how sticky it gets. Ok ladies let suggestions begin!!!
Cheryl
P.S. please forgive my spelling!

Cheryl,
I can't advise you on Latin Masses in the DC area (daily Mass, anyway), but there are areas in Maryland from where you can easily commute to good government jobs, and where there are wonderful, homeschool-friendly parishes. There are Latin Masses available on Sundays in Baltimore, for sure (St. Alphonsus and the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Assumption - gorgeous church!). We've found Maryland to be more affordable than NOVA, although we've had to make some commuting tradeoffs, too.
Many of our homeschooling friends live in Bowie, MD, where there are several vibrant, traditionally-minded parishes. PM me for details...

Somewhere around Seattle, WA. We have a FSSP parish (North American Martyrs). We do not have a permanent location, yet, but the parish is thriving and full of young growing families, including military families.
I pray that you and your husband find the right place for your family to live.

I don't know how the job market is for government jobs in the Denver area - there is a big regional Federal Center here though. There is an active FSSP parish as well - many homeschool families there. Homeschool laws are pretty lenient. GREAT climate - not as cold or snowy as everyone thinks. Nice summers - no humidity.

Here in Scranton, Latin Mass is available daily. There are also devout NO Masses and very devout Eastern Catholic liturgies, including at my parish . The homeschool laws are certainly more restrictive than in states where there is no reporting, but PA isn't that bad. Here in Scranton we have a nice homeschool group that is growing all the time!
Here is a link to the Latin church St Michael's. It is my understanding that many of the families in that church homeschool and that they have a nice homeschool group as well.

Oklahoma? the OKC area has a TLM parish...
http://wdtprs.com/blog/2009/11/brick-by-brick-in-oklahoma/
It also speaks about the one in Bethany.
Homeschooling is extremely easy in OK, the laws are great! There are some wonderful hsing groups/opportunities in the OKC and Tulsa areas, and hey, there's lots of land for sale out of the city, if you are interested in that.
Besides, I'm south of the city

Hello from N. AL!!
Ok...let's see if I can help you narrow down a bit.
LATIN MASS
We are very blessed, we have Mass offered in the Extraordinary Rite every Sunday here as well as First Fridays, every Monday, some Holy Days. There is not a specific Latin Mass parish.
STICKINESS
We've got it...in abundance. If you can't bear the humidity, North Alabama is not your place. I am not a big fan, and I've been a southern gal all my life. Summers can be oppressive!
HOMESCHOOLING LAWS
Are not restrictive and easy to comply with. We have a local Catholic umbrella school which even receives recognition through the diocese. This umbrella offers great support for Catholic home educators, fees are very minimal, though there are a few (easy to meet, imo) requirements. I coordinate the local homeschool support group which stays in contact through a yahoo group. We have a fairly active group.
I love your list...Mass, heat & humidity, home education!!! Feel free to pm me if you want more specific details!

You guys are all so WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you for all of the suggestions and help! Jen, I really just don't want the humidity that I have here on Okinawa. :) I'll give you an example on average in the summer here it is between 95-100 with the humidity at the same percentage as the temp or higher. We bascially melt over here! It is humid all year round except for a few months in the winter. On a summer day here when you wake up in the morning you have condensation running down your windows and lots of it!! Dis I mention the bugs and snakes? I really miss the change of seasons the most, I miss the beautiful fall colors and smells of the cool crisp air. If it is only humid a couple months out of the year I can manage! You ladies have been great, thanks again! I am just ready for a new chapter in my life and I hope and pray that it is one that we as a family can continue to grow in our faith and love for Our Lord. I know God will send us where He wants us, I just hope and pray that we can follow His will.
God bless,
Cheryl
