Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I need your opinions ASAP! Just your own personal opinion, from what you have observed. What is too old for a Chuck E. Cheese birthday party? Please don't give me ideas for alternatives, that's another thread, I just want your opinion on this question

My son is turning 8. I am really panicked about his birthday party; I am planning it last-minute, I have not gotten him out there so he has a lot of good friends, I'm pregnant and have been dragging through the winter. We're already planning to delay his party about a week so we have more time to plan and invitees have more notice.

I know *he* is not too old/mature for this and would be excited to get to go there. I am thinking this might be the best option for various reasons, IF it is not something the other kids we invite -- probably mostly boys also turning 8 this year or already 8, but not exactly his personal "friends" -- would think was babyish and not want to participate in, since he's not one of their best friends or anything. He went to a 7th birthday party there a couple of years ago, but I don't know, maybe kids see a world of difference between 7 and 8.

We were just there about 2 months ago for a party for a boy turning 6. All of my kids went, including the 11 (almost 12) y.o. They all had a blast. The bday boy's older brother is 8.5 and he also had a blast. It seemed like there were kids up to about 12 or so, that I remember. I think it would be fine for an 8th birthday party.
Good Luck!

My boys are 7 & 9 and both enjoy Chuck E Cheese when they have the chance to go. I think we last went in August -- which was a few months before my oldest turned 9.

I think the kids would have fun!!

oh I think all of my kids from the almost 13 yr old down would love to go there.. but it's quite a novelty.. since we only go when we visit my ILs and then not every time so you're talking once every few years.

The few times I've been in there, I saw teenagers that I'm fairly certain were there by themselves.

With that said, the place gives ME a headache. For three days afterward. But the children love it (and sleep well after!). I don't think there's an age limit to when it becomes "baby-ish" except maybe if you're talking about children who go to schools segregated by ages (ie middle school) - then it's a secret enjoyment of theirs, but they are less likely (though not always!) prone to admit it out loud. By 8th grade again, they don't care. But homeschooled kids? They'll have fun!

When I was picking 19yods from school a couple weeks ago, we had to find something to do for 3 or so hours, before he got out of class. Not being from the area and wanting to stay close to the university, we wound up at a Chuck E. Cheese. When my oldest four were little, I used to avoid C.E.C. like the plague! For me, the activity made excedrin a necessity!

However, my two youngest boys (5 3/4 and 8 1/2) loved it!!! I think it actually worked better with them being older than younger (at least I didn't have so much anxiety about losing one of them!) Also, when we came in, some very kind woman came up to me and handed me her extra coupons.

I would think your son would have a great time.

God Bless,
Stacy in MI

8 is definitely not too old!   He and his friends will have a blast!!!   The noise level is challenging, but there's no mess at your house and nothing to clean up afterward!

Thanks ladies, I am relieved to know so many of you think it is fine for an 8th birthday party.

I agree that 8 year olds would still love it. I just took my 3 (including 9 and 10 1/2 at the time) and they all 3 loved, loved, loved it!! We always go early in the morning tho, right when they open and are gone around lunch b/c of the noise and crowd level the other gal mentioned.

My 8yo ds would be thrilled with a Chuck-E-Cheese party.

My kids, 10 and 8, still love CEC, but what we've done the last couple times is just take the kids there, buy pizza and get tokens to play and avoid the giant mouse character and singing - that's the part that is babyish IMO and even kids about 6 and up are embarrassed by it. Plus, the cake CC does is pretty lame and you're paying for all the little extras. We did the full party once years ago and I was shocked at how quickly the total shot up. So we come home afterward and have cake and presents at home.

That was my concern. Unfortunately, Chuck E. Cheese doing the work is a major part of why we're doing this... otherwise we're simple home party type of people. If you reserve a party rather than just walking in and taking care of the details yourself, I don't think there's any way out of the "giant mouse character and singing."

Hmm,you're probably right about that. But other than the cake, doing things yourself there is really not a big deal IME. The kids are pretty confined to the playing area, as long as you trust them not to leave the building! I'm not sure if they'd let you bring in your own cake, though, if you don't book their party. Maybe you can just request "no mouse" - they'd still get paid the same and probably wouldn't care.
to me, the best part about having it there is they have to do the clean-up
