Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

So, have you ever been far from home and run into people you know - or people who know about you?

My dh was in Frankfurt airport (Germany) this morning and ran into...our pastor! Fr. Gene and a group of travelers from our parish are en route to Egypt. Imagine dh's surprise when one of his fellow cantors greeted him in a food purchase line!

(Cue Disney music...)

My dad is the master of this...

One day my dad and I were walking down a street in a town we were visiting when all of a sudden a car pulled up to the curb and a little man jumped out said, "Hey, XXXXX- is that you? It is you! I'd know you anywhere!"

The man turned out to be someone my dad had gone to grammar school with in NY and hadn't seen for over 40 years!

I remember the summer vacation to the West Coast we took when I was 8. Dad was driving, and we passed a road construction crew. All of a sudden Dad swerved over to the right shoulder. Mom and us kids thought we had a flat tire, but Dad hopped out of the car and ran back to one of the guys on the construction crew. Turned out he served in the Navy with Dad!

Great story, Nancy!

Way back in 1987 when I was four months along with our first child, my DH and I took a pilgrimage to Medugorje. It was a horrible experience getting there: from lost luggage, to a fill-in driver who spoke no English, to a bumpy ride in the mountains. We were completely exhausted when we got to the home of our host family. We were at the bottom of the stairs leading up to the entrance and at the top of the stairs stood my husband's favorite professor from college, Fr. Jack! Dan just about knocked him over, he was so ecstatic to see him! Imagine, we were so far from home and Fr. Jack was staying in the same house as us. God was so good in setting up this meeting for the two of us.. young, inexperienced and very weary travelers. It was a tremendous consolation. I still smile when I think of it all these years later.

My oldest dd was in a coffee shop in Casablanca (NOT in Rick's American Cafe) and saw someone who used to live in the apartment below hers (in Maryland).
It is so much fun when that kind of thing happens.

Peace,
Nancy

We were on our trip to MX and staying is saltillo at a posada . My kids came running into our room shouting that thier friends were there ! I thought they must've met some mexican children to play with . Nope ! friends of ours were traveling via bus and had stopped to overnight and picked the very same posada we were in . We had no idea they had also planned a Mexico trip and we were certainly all going to different locations . The kids were just thrilled we spent the next few days playing , eating together etc.

There is a man who is friends with many of our friends, and people are ALWAYS running into him all over the world. I've heard three or four stories of people being in random places (like Rome or Paris) and running into David. It is bizarre!

I ran into a high school classmate in the Ancient Egyptian art section of the Louvre museum while I was in Europe the summer before my senior year of college. It was totally surreal.

I ran into a high school classmate and her family outside of the Piazza Navona when I was in college. It's actually funny because I find it very difficult to place people when I see them out of context--they look familiar, but it takes me a while to remember from where.

We have a casual friend from Minnesota who we've ran into in Rome on our honeymoon and recently in Princeton, NJ.

My dh also ran into an old college friend in Rome that same trip. I guess that's not so odd--the friend was a priest and we were at the NAC. But then a few years later he switched to a religious order and was assigned to the parish we were attending.

Ash Wednesday last year dh is in Sydney (700km from here) He knows he can't make the local Mass at St Patrick's but decides to spend some time in prayer. Imagine his joy when he arrives and discovers an extra Mass is on, a Latin Mass in St Patrick's Cathedral (not an everyday event!)

He is kneeling thinking the back of the priest's head is familiar when the priest turns at the Elevation he sees it is! It's Fr T-M! Certainly not his parish and not in his area at all. Fr T-M is our homeschool camp chaplain and we see him once a year. Imagine Fr's shock at seeing dh at Communion time

The summer before my sophomore year of high school my family went to Disney World. While standing in line for the Jungle Boat ride I realized that a girl I knew from school was in the line a little bit ahead of us. Half the time in Disney you can't find the people you came with.

My brother (Peter) was a seminarian and was working in the Dominican Republic. He was in a church in his clericals. This kind of rough looking guy was staring at him with the most shocked expression. Turns out he was a crew member from other brother's (Paul) merchant vessel. Peter and Paul are identical twins - minus the sailor language and tattoos. This guy did not know Paul had a twin. The twins have led very different lives and most people don't know they have a twin. They run into people that seem to know them - but the twins have no clue who they are. Peter politely asks if they are looking for Paul. Paul has spent too much time at sea, he just scowls at the poor confused individual.

Oh my, that is like a story out of a novel! Fascinating!
