Did anybody else get as excited as me when they saw this last night?
The first person to get a golden ticket on this season of American Idol was Barbara Curtis' 16 year old daughter Maddy. Their whole family was highlighted beautifully on the show and she sang a beautiful song with grace and innocence. I smiled, cried and cheered. Thought you might like to also.

Yes! I loved her! I'm really hoping she stays in for a while, though a small part of me thought, "Oh no! She's so sweet, and only 16, send her home before you ruin her!"

Wow! I had no idea that she was Barbara Curtis' daughter. Now I feel like she's really someone I know! That is just so neat!

They are such a lovely family and Maddy is a true gem. She is a cantor at our parish and I could never adequately describe her beautiful soul. As an example of how sweet she is, she sang at my grandmother's 94th birthday party in a nursing home last month. Barbara and my mom have become friends (Barbara's oldest was born the same year as I was) and my mom wanted to "hire" Maddy to sing at this party, but Maddy didn't want to be paid--just to sing out of the goodness of her heart. She prepared a handful of old Irish songs and she sang like an angel. Lovely, lovely, lovely girl .

Oh, I just now got around to following the links, how neat is this! What a great witness to life, at a time when most babies with Down Syndrome are being aborted. It was very sweet to see the relationship between Maddy and her brothers.

This is so cool! All of it - I hope that good things come from this public example. But like Nancy, part of me says "protect her from media and Hollywood " though she clearly is a grounded and faith-filled young woman. We'll be praying for her.
Thanks for starting this thread, Colleen, for us non-Idol watchers.

I added that blog link here then deleted the other day because the Youtube video link had been removed (copyright issues) - looks like it's resolved - yeah - now it can be linked on Barbara's page again!
