issue:
I live on the corner lot. We live near the schools; kids walk this way to get there. These same kids will cut through my yard. They used to walk through my front porch but have since stopped that. It wouldn't bother me so much except they are making a track because they walk the same place each time.
How can I stop this without having to camp out on my front porch each morning (says this not a morning person)? I pay a service to come and make my yard semi-nice and it upsets me that kids do this. I think it's mostly the high schoolers as the elementary kids walk with parents. A friend suggested landscaping with cactus.

How about hot tape? You know - electrical tape you use to keep livestock in or out?
Or how about some crime scene tape? That would freak them out.
I had a similar problem - but our yard was gated. The kids would just come through the gate. I bungee corded (sp. ??) the gate closed. My issue was they left the gate open and my doggie would get out and I didn't appreciate some of the language used as the kids cut through my yard.
Good luck!

You need something like a fence or hedge or such to keep them out..
Contariwise.. you could put down some nice paving stones and make it an actual path for them to walk on

You could use this deer repeller
We had one of these set up for the ..... "deer" that cut through our yard.

Oh! and I also like the idea to set the sprinklers to come on during the morning and afternoon times they're walking by.

If you're living off base you need to check your local laws...our county has a law that says if we let people cut through our yard on a regular basis, the path becomes a right of way for the public. Our next-door-neighbors had a huge problem with this (we live along a shortcut from the local high school and had dozens of teens strolling through both our yards). He put up a huge privacy fence. End of problem.
I know if you're on base you have more restrictions...
I vote deer fencing for a month or two or five until they get the idea that they have to go around.

This one left me speechless! Don't their parents have a clue about teaching manners and proprieties? Absolutely amazing!
I second the watering schedule, if you don't have any restrictions on it.
I lived on a corner lot growing up, and my dad created a flower bed that had a little split-rail fence that went down the middle, sort of like a straight line that went to the corner of the sidewalks, like it was bisecting the angle made by the grass. Kind of hard to describe?, but it looked nice.
The neighbors on our corner did try the stepping stones for the inconsiderate walkers in our neighborhood, but it didn't work! So they ended up removing them, sodding all over again, and set up the sprinklers. That, and the fact they have a very serious looking boxer, has kept the kiddies from trekking across their lovely yard.
I hope that one of the suggested solutions works for you at keeping those trespassers away!
God Bless,
Stacy in MI

So sorry KC, how about moving your fence line up closer to the front of the house on that one side? would the space be used better in the backyard fenced in than in the front not fenced in? I know the side you are talking about. I know fencing is pricey, but I'd bring the fence up and then maybe some landscaping ... maybe some hedges that can border the side yard towards WI street,,,. with sprinklers!

Ok I vote deer sprinkler for sheer entertainment value.
Be sure to Youtube it!
Seriously that's what neighbors did when I was growing up. It was fairly typical.
