Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

What's on the top of your main tree? Star, Angel, or something else?

I would make it a poll, but i do not know how to do that on this forum

How about a red bird with a tail full of red, curly feathers?

She's now at the top of the tree!

We're star people here.

Love that bird, though! Very unique!

And Laura, you forgot to say what you do!

Star, I never can find an angel that works for me because I grew up with a particular look for one.. and I now have the angel I grew up with but it's so frail.. I'm really afraid to use it.. my plan is to shadowbox it so that I can put it out safely.. and we'll keep our star on the tree.

I made a hot glued, red velvet covered cardboard star, with a gold lam`e ruffle 12 years ago when DH and I had our first tree. We couldn't afford to buy any ornamentation for the tree, so I used whay I had on hand and made it work, and used it ever since.
Last year the hot glue was finally so unattatched that I thought about getting/making something different. I just couldn't bring myself to do it though and with my sewing machine, I made sure That it would serve us for many more Christmasses to come.

We have the star that topped my tree as a child. It is plastic and on the inside there is a cylinder with different colored plastic circles all over it. The cylinder balances on a metal spike over a light bulb. When the light bulb heats the cylinder rotates throwing colored light all over the room. I love it

We had an angel growing up which my dad still uses (it was on HIS tree growing up!). It lights up, lol, but I do like it. I couldn't find anything remotely like it, and when we bought our first Christmas tree at Bronner's in Frankenmuth, MI, we found a cross topper. Its quite pretty, and we thought it appropriate as well!

We have a spike/spire. My husband's favorite type of ornament is a glass ball and he loves the look of it.

We have an angel that my in-laws gave to us the first year we were married. As a child, my family had a star on their tree. I like both.

Years ago I worked with a woman who created stained glass items in her spare time. I commissioned her to make a beautiful Angel, and it has been on the top of my tree ever since. I love to have one of the tree lights set up to shine through it.

A star. My husband doesn't like frilly, overly feminine representations of angels. I looked for a more, err... gender-neutral-leaning-more-toward-masculine (ala St. Michael) treetop angel for years . No luck.

We found a sequined-type gold star and it works just fine !

Star...hand-painted and fur-trimmed in WV. It's a Santa star - the fur is on his hat. Dh picked it out years ago; I've never seen a star quite like it.

We've always had an angel, but this year our tree is too tall to put it on! I have a star set sort of in front, on a couple of branches below the top.

Side-note - We go to Bronners every year and I buy a new ornament for each of the kids as one of their stocking gifts. It's become the most anticipated gift - even for the 5 year old. When we decorate the tree they love to pull out their ornaments and reminice. I love it too!
Also, while at Bronners, my husband always sneaks over to the Fontanini display and buys a new piece for our creche too. That's my favorite gift!

MY DH GREW UP WITH THAT STAR!

I was just going to post about the "disco ball" star. That is the reason we have a star on our tree (although not as COOL as the disco ball star), even though I grew up with an angel (and miss it).

So did we!!!
It was our second Christmas together, our first in our own home.

Anyway, we put our last Jesse Tree ornament of Baby Jesus on top of our Christmas tree on Christmas morning.

God bless,
Christine

Of course! I was with my ILs;) Funny story, my dh hates "chicken on the bone" and every year when his family went for a chicken dinner (he's the youngest of 12), he always ordered a hamburger! Now he just gets the breast meat on a roasted bird

Fun to read all the Bronner's stories. It really is a Christmas wonderland. We figured that when we didn't find an appropriate angel there, our chances of finding one at all were pretty slim!

I just had an inspired idea, though! I think that next year I might commission an angel from Catholic Folk Toys. I'm sure my husband could drill a hole in the base to make it a topper!
