Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

non-Christian friends for the holidays? Our Jewish neighbors give us a nice "happy holidays" card each year. I do not want to offend them, but I really don't want to give a "happy holidays" in return. It is too late now for Happy Hannakuh, plus they always tell me that it's a pretty minor holiday for them.

Would it be wrong/rude to give them a religious card?

I might just have my kids make a simple card with the Jewish star, or something from the Old Testament. Wishing them the love of God the Father during this holy season. We have Jewish relatives and I always focus on what we have in common.

I think it would all depend on how close your were to your friends. If they are special friends, taking the time to make a card that catered to their Holiday is a very nice gesture; however, if it is more of a casual, but certainly friendly relationship, I would just send the Merry Christmas card that you are using for all the rest of the receipients on the card-list.

I really don't think that most people get offended with "Merry Christmas"; it is the Holiday spirit of Christ you are sending, not just the words on the card.

After 15 yrs of dealing with Jewish/Christian relations, I would not be to quick to assume people will not get offended. My dh grew up in a Jewish neighborhood, so he has a special love and sensitivity for our Jewish brothers and sisters!

since they are not giving you a Happy Hannakuh card (since they know you are not Jewish, but seem to still want you to know you are thought of at this time of year, when there are many holidays going on,) i would likely do them the same kindness in return, and give a "holiday" card to them also.

I always send religious Christmas cards to everyone. I've never had anyone be offended.
