Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Just learned about ethical wills this evening. I think this will be our husband-and-wife project for 2010.

more info here

Have you written one? Mind sharing a few ideas/tips/experiences?

I've never heard of these, but what an interesting idea. Thanks for the heads up!

I haven't read the book (adding it to my book stack, so goodness knows when it will get read ) but the link above had some suggestions to get started -- scroll down to Approach #2. So I think we'll start there, and incorporate more after we read the book.

And there are samples here. I've been looking at the ones written by people in their 40's. Some great ideas there.

My mom made an official, impersonal will when she knew she was dying. But in going through her things before the funeral, I came across an earlier will she'd handwritten in which she gave advice to me and my brother:

"Be honest, be honorable, be kind. Don't make the kids take too many sports and don't let any of them bully other kids--ever. It doesn't matter what they accomplish--it matters that they're happy."

LOL, Mom! Only my mom would juxtapose major life values with not overscheduling kids.

I read that at the funeral and it was a great way for my mom to give something to the people there, I thought.

Amanda that is sweet! And don't all us moms think like that...be kind, good and above all wear something clean! At least that's me when we are going out!

Thanks for the food for thought...
