Is it allowed to give gifts to regular delivery workers anymore? Growing up we always did. We have several different mail carriers but we have the same UPS man every day--and he really is here almost every day, especially in December. Ideas?

We give a small tin of homemade candies to our Fed Ex lady and our postman.

I believe they can take gifts but not money. I know I gave the UPS man some homemade jam after he delivered a bulk food order to me.. it was about 600pounds worth of boxes

Susan, growing up my parents did the same thing - gifts for the newspaper boy (remember those?) and the mailman.
How about a gift certificate for a local place in an amount suitable for lunch? Not necessarily McDonald's , but another sandwich type places that offer quick service? Or Starbucks, or a local ice cream place?
Or would you feel comfortable giving him home-made baked goods? I used to do this with our postal carrier back home, because we knew her for many, many years (20+).

I was a "paper boy"! It was amazing how much I made in tips and the crazy gifts I got each year with only a route of 35 customers on my street. I wish there were still good jobs like that for kids.
I was thinking a little bag of Christmas treats. I love to make piles of stuff and I'm always looking for people other than dh and myself to bestow it on

Believe me, letter carriers APPRECIATE being given gifts, monetary or otherwise. It is so very nice for them to know that they are loved and appreciated for what they do...especially those that go out of their way for others. In some places in this country the management treats the carriers very badly (like here) and it helps them to know that the customers they serve appreciate their efforts and care about them as human beings.

I do too! Especially with having sons.... I think that job was a great way for a boy to learn responsibility and make some money.

We don't have a mailbox in front of our house. It's a community one for a few houses on our street. How would you give a gift?

When I worked, we had a regular UPS guy. He was the nicest guy...would just brighten your day when he came in. So we bought him one of those hand warming packs that he could use in his truck on extra cold days.

We leave a well-wrapped plate of homemade treats, inside a gift bag; in our mailbox for the postal carrier, on top of our can for the garbage collectors. Our postman always leaves a nice handwritten thank-you note. Thanks for the reminder...we're a little behind on Christmas cooking and other preparations this year...can it really be only 2 weeks until Christmas Eve?

Restaurant.com has gift cards which can be used to get a certificate to a restaurant of one's choosing. They are on sale right now, $3 for a $25 gift card. I just ordered on for the UPS guy and the coffee ladies at dh's work!

We leave cookies for the mail lady. And on really cold days, a mug of hot coffee and the mugs are ALWAYS returned,
