Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I am making a doll themed gift basket for my two girls for Christmas - I have a stack of books and I was looking for some little Japanese dolls to add. Does anyone know where I can find these - I would so love kokeshi dolls that look like Rumer Godden's Miss Happiness and Miss Flower?

right now at high end perfume counters there is a type of perfume that sells these dolls as collectors items with the perfume....sorry I don't know the name of the perfume. They are super cute and great little girls scents to go with them.

Marcia - thank you so much - I am going to buy directly from the World Gallery I think rather than amazon (the shipping is better). I am getting the Wise one and the Happiness one!!)

Marcia - I just had to share: my good friend and godmother of one dd and Confirmation sponsor for the other told me yesterday about a wonderful doll shop 5 minutes away from her ( a half hour away from me) - apparently it is absolutely wonderful - all kinds of dolls, dollhouses etc. Anyway she has picked me up 2 kokeshi for my dd - that look just like Miss Happiness and Miss Flower.

We are planning a girly field trip there (as we are doing a dolls unit study) ... though I am going to leave my purse at home....and have to figure out what to do with all these boys who will not want to come...

Thanks again for your help.

Marilyn, could you share with us what you are doing? I think this is a wonderful idea!!! I am stumped as to what to do for my two youngest daughters for Christmas. They are turning 3 and 5 this month.
What a wonderful idea though, my wheels are turning. I can just picture a big beautiful basket filled with beautiful books and dolls from different countries under the tree.
Please share if you have a moment.

Kirsten - I am starting a doll tradition with my dds this year - each Christmas I want to include a doll basket as part of their gifts. This Christmas we will have a Japanese basket (we have just had a unit on Japan in our World Geography - and we were fascinated as we took a little rabbit trail on Japanese dolls) - I will have their Kokeshi dolls with a nice edition of Rumer Godden's Miss Happiness and Miss Flower.

I am in the process of writing a dolls unit study and have been collecting doll books - this year I will give them Big Susan and the Best Loved Doll.

Other ideas for a basket - Dover does a wonderful collection of paper dolls from around the world.

Another idea is the American Girl mini dolls - although my oldest dd saved up for her AG - I am not so sure about the baby getting one - makes me feel very uneasy to spend $95 on one doll right now when so many have so little. I do like their minis though - and am considering a collection of minis for my younger dd that I can order through the years (these are $14 on amazon)

I am researching international dolls - but have not come up with much yet.

I have a handwritten list of doll books if you need more ideas - I can email to you - I have a finger injury right now so typing is hard.
