okay...so for you moms who only, mainly, or frequently wear skirts.....ESPECIALLY those of you who live in a HOT climate.....how do you deal with the whole shaving legs stuff? my skin is very, very sensitive (like, i have an actual medical condition....)and shaving too often is a major no-no, and the creams and stuff burn me like acid. but my leg hair grows in pretty thick and pretty dark.
it is WAYYYY to hot to wear stockings. and i don't do hot well at all - i get hot, and i get a panic attack.
(winter is nice, i can wear tights and get to wear skirts....but winter in Vegas is only a month or two long, and most of the rest of the time we are in spring/summer attire.)
help.
looking for a rock to crawl under...

Wear long skirts? seriously my everyday denim skirts are 35" long and I'm only 5'4" so you only see from a few inches over my ankle and down.
also even though I do shave my lower leg (only!) I only do so a couple times a week.
But the other thing is to start trying to tell on other women wearing skirts.. especially long skirts.. can you really see their lower leg all that well anyway?

And I'm sure you know to protect your skin as much as possible during shaving.. use a good libricant so that you don't "scrape".. short strokes are also safer.. use a sharp razor.. change them more frequently if needed.
Have you tried aloe? that's what I used when we lived in Tucson. My skin would get so very dry because of the climate.. I found using aloe after every shower made a huge difference to my skin.

okay - i have a quite a few long patchwork skirts that i wear...but i trip over the hem quite often - especially now living in a house with stairs. any good tips to avoid that?
(re: my skin....i have a weird condition called dermatographia...i have had it for...forever. my skin cells are overly sensitive. if i have an itch, and unthinkingly scratch it...i will have big ol' welts looking like i just was in a fight with a tiger...)

another question.....is that okay? i am full of questions today....
how do you find long, full, swingy, not-hot, skirts that look okay on a full size figure? i always feel like i look very dumpy & frumpy - as opposed to feminine, which is what i would like! - in long skirts.

laura, i have no advise on the figure thing, i feel like i always look frumpy - and i will admit i have been wearing jeans a lot lately. as for shaving - i rarely shave my legs, and long skirts solve that issue for me. and when you get ready to go up the stairs use you hands to lift your skirt at the knee a bit. if you have your hands full, bring your knee up a bit and hook your skirt w/your pinky.

Stop looking in mirrors seriously, if you're used to wearing pants for instance, the sillouette is so different when you wear a skirt that you'll magnify it out of proportion because you're used to a different look. A glimpse now and then and letting yourself just get used to looking different in skirts will help a great deal in how you feel about how you look.
Also look for bias cut skirts and A-line and the ones that are somewhat fitted from waist to thigh and then have a swirl/flare/inset in the lower portion of the skirt.. slim on top with the swingy fullness around the bottom. That will also help with going up stairs.. since the top is closer cut lifting your leg will pull up the front of the skirt. You also might find you need to lift your foot a bit higher as you go up stairs to pull the skirt out from under your foot.. or give a bit of a kick to move the skirt out of the way.. and you'd only need to do that when your hands are so impossibly full that you can't just grab one side of the skirt and hike it up a bit.

This is my favorite skirt for everyday wear.. comfy and not too bulky and long.
Cargo Pocket Skirt
It's denim but not too heavy so it's good for summer wear too. And they've held up pretty good.

on the long skirt hem....
If I have a skirt that is too long (ie. I'm tripping on it), I roll the waistband a couple of times so that the skirt is a smidge shorter. I could adjust the hem with sewing...I **should** do that...but generally, if I've put on a skirt that's too long and I realize it, I just roll the waistband a bit for the day.
on avoiding tripping on the stairs...
with left hand, reach down, grab wad of skirt, lift slightly, step up.
on the long skirt flattering a full figure thing...
I would think that a modestly fitted top would look nice paired with a skirt. I would avoid large patterns on a skirt and try to stick with neutral colors or smaller prints while choosing tops/blouses that were in colors that were a bit brighter and complementary to my skin tone to draw the eye upward to my face. I know Jodie has linked to very stylish sites before that seem to offer much for the fuller figure. I also like A-line as opposed to full and gathered-at-the-waist style skirts. They generally seem much more flattering on any figure that's not a size 4. I generally find something that fits and flatters me well style-wise and then shop at the thrift stores with that in mind.

Something like this skirt, Laura, is one of my favorite skirts!!! It starts out fitted and flares towards the bottom. This is just an example of one style, but I like gored skirts as well because they're swingy at the bottom and more fitted towards the top. VERY flattering!

since i have no dignity left anyway, i may as well ask my final, completely humiliating question. i wish there was a way to do the "invisible font" on this forum.
okay - what do you do...if your thighs...kinda rub? and it hurts? (and you have the really sensitive skin so that it really, really hurts?)
oh goodness, where is my rock??? i am never coming out now...

I wear split skirt slips, especially in the summer, for comfort issues.
Here's one I found doing a quick google search

That's a prety skirt Jennifer.. same length as the one I linked to.. funny how a skirt can look different because of the height of the model
oh yes, tops are going to make a huge difference.. a top that's a bit fitted but not tight helps.
bit of a hijack - I finally figured out why the book Dressing with Dignity drives me nuts.. she talks about making sure a top isn't too tight by being able to press the shirt to the chest in the middle front.. and then says that it should be the same for large or small busted women.. HUH??? if you're a small busted woman you can have a couple inches of ease in the shirt but a larger busted woman needs 5 or 6 inches? That's rediculous. Better to say you should be able to grasp about an inch fold of fabric under each arm (that's 4 inches of ease) so that the fabric isn't tight but neither does it have to hang in folds.. ok.. back to the actual conversation.
If you wear your tops loose over the top of the skirt.. don't wear tops that go past the widest point of your hip (and since you don't want a line at the widest point.. shorter may be better) OR get one that has slits on the sides so that your shirt isn't binding your skirt (and making you look more bunchy)

Laura, regarding the legs rubbing together...
A girlfriend of mine in Florida who does marathon walking introduced a product to me that "all" walkers use. It looks like a deoderant stick, but is for everywhere on your body that gets rubbed: feet, bra-line, between the thighs!!! I used it a couple of times in Florida and it really works. You can get it in any sports shop. I'm sorry I can't give you a specific name, but I am sure that anyone in the branch would know immediately what you are talking about.
