Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I have a cousin who is getting married in a Catholic ceremony next month. She is not Catholic; her fiance is but I don't think he is a practicing Catholic. (They have been living together for a number of years.) I am the only relative on her side of the family who is Catholic, and I would like to try to think of a distinctly Catholic wedding present to give her. Does anyone have any ideas?

My first thought is a Family Bible, one of those nice big ones which have pages for a family tree and to note down important family events (I love mine, which has room for eight children).

I agree, that was one of the gifts we recieved when we were married, and I wasn't Catholic and my dh had been pretty luke-warm while in college

maybe a beautiful statue of the Blessed Mother? That would be pretty Catholic.

Not sure how you do it, but you can write to the Vatican and request a formal blessing for their marriage. An official certificate is issued, maybe someone else knows more about it. I have a friend who has one hanging on her wall, very beautiful.

I would give them a beautiful blessed crucifix.

I saw this thread a few days ago and was going to comment and totally forgot, just got back to it.

We give a starter nativity set as a wedding gift. We buy the Fontani sets of the Holy Family every year after Christmas and give them as a gift. We got the idea from my in laws who gave us the set when we got married and then added to it for every occasion (birthdays, saint days, anniversaries). We always write in the note that as their marriage strengthens and grows so can the set.

You should see the thank you notes we've gotten! The best was from a couple who got married a week before Christmas and then secretly stayed home in their apartment for the next two weeks. They opened all their gifts and when they got to the nativity they just stared at it. See since everyone assumed they would be on their honeymoon, no one got them any Christmas decorations. It was a very special gift for them and all they needed to honor the Holy Family on that special Christmas.

All lovely ideas! If you go with the Bible one, find out who the Priest is marrying them, make an app't to see him before the Wedding and ask him to bless it, sign it, and add a personal message and to date it the day of their Wedding

What wonderful gift ideas. Even though you have already decided, I'll throw this out anyway. I always like to give holy water fonts. It seems there are never enough for all the doorways. They come in all shapes, sizes, and price ranges.

God bless,
