Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone know anything about this movie? Or could someone recommend a good site for movie reviews? We're very conservative about what we allow the girls to watch if that helps at all.

Thank you.

Our favorite movie review site is Plugged In Online. They give extremely detailed movie reviews from a Christian perspective, noting any vulgarities, s*xual content, violence, etc, plus any other additional negative things, and also any positives they saw, plus a general review.

That being said, I could only find UP on their site in Spanish!

My mom saw it with my 9yo (before I read the reviews ) and all I got from my mom was "That wasn't a good movie for a 9yo girl" and my dd didn't like it. I didn't push the issue with either of them so I don't know what it's like myself.

Hopefully someone will be more help, or if you know Spanish you can read a thorough review on the link above.

ETA: Hey, a little extra googling found it in English on the site: Up Review: Plugged In Online

A friend wants me to see the movie "Doubt" on her "newer than new" enormous television screen. Has anyone see this or have any views on it. One review I read said its not about "Catholic bashing" but as my friend is fiercely Protestant I'm a little wary of watching it.
thanks for your help

Kids in Mind is my favorite review site--for each movie, it provides a rating and an exhaustive list of offenses in three categories. Here's their review of Up.

I just took my 3 older ones to see it on Saturday. My 8 yo daughter was the only kid who liked it I thought it was very sweet, although there were 2 or 3 spots that were a bit menacing for the 5 year old. My 11 y/o DS was totally unimpressed.
I don't recall anything objectionable about it (though having seen it only 6 days ago, you'd think it'd be fresher )

I took my 8 y.o. and 10 y.o. The 8 y.o. boy said it was the best movie he'd ever seen. 10 y.o. girl really enjoyed it, and I thought it was just okay--the beginning was very sad, and there were some menacing dogs, but overall it was okay, I thought.

I definitely boohooed in our theater! Both at the beginning and at the end. I don't want to give anything away. My four boys liked it (14, 11, 7, and 5.) Aside from the mean dogs and the explorer, I can't think of much that would be objectionable. Unless I was too busy blowing my nose and didn't notice.

God Bless,

My twins (8) liked it, but there was a fire scene that freaked my 6 year-old out. Other than that, there were the dogs and evil explorer...The theme of the movie was really geared to older adults, I thought, as it deals with aging, loss of loved ones, and moving on in life. It has a positive, hopeful ending that affirms the value of the elderly in society. It was an OK movie..not great, not awful.

We all loved it, the whole family. I cried like a baby through most of it, but good tears, you know? I thought it was touching and poignant and charming. The kids (7 and 13) thought it was great. Even dh liked it and he is not a big fan of movies in general.
