I'm just curious... do you all prefer blogs to stick to a subject (such as "homeschooling" or "food"), or do you care if the blog author jumps around?
I'm just wondering. Sometimes I get a little whiplash from when I post about gardening and then educational theory and on to food and maybe a brief mention of ADD-ridden organization and then something that happened that day, and well... you get the picture.  I've been wondering whether I ought to start a "real food" blog because it's something I'm interested in right now, or if keeping it lumped in together with everything else is really okay.

Personally, I have multiple blogs because they're for different main interests: a knitting blog (for my hand-knits designs), a blog about my books (Great Yarns and In His Image), a blog for the family stuff and then a private blog (that only I can access) for my journaling details of each homeschool day for my kids' records ....
This works for me ... so, maybe if you're finding the real food stuff is becoming an entity all to itself, you might want to split it out. Blogger seems to let me have quite a few ... and they're free ... so why not?

I like having a couple of blogs that are dedicated to specific subjects - I have a Nature Study blog for example. BUT....I find I tend to hang out in one place...at home.
Truthfully, I love stopping by to see what you're up to Angela - whether it's your country diary, your ed.philosophy thoughts, the different real food books you're reading, or what the chickens are up to!

I used to have several blogs. Talk about blogging burnout! So now I stick to one. I still have others floating all over the place that I need to consolidate but... it really depends on how you like things organized. Maybe one day I'll separate things out, but for now all I have energy for is one. I don't think it's disjointed at all when people post about different facets of their life.

I switched over to one because 3 were too much of a mental drain. I do find it difficult to avoid that whiplash feeling. OTOH I like reading blogs that have changes of pace from a long thoughtful post to a quick quote or photo, etc.

As a blog reader, I like the variety all in one place.
As a blogger, I only have one now, but have considered starting another for topics not related to my family. Right now, my goal is to blog family life to preserve memories and share with family. It is not somewhere I vent about politics or discuss budgeting.
Kind of a tangent, and maybe too personal, but do any of you use your blogs to supplement your income, through ads and referrals, etc? I came across the idea of making money with a blog.

Agreeing with Molly. As a blog reader, I enjoy the different posts. Sharing your garden, your recipes, the way you are able to budget to feed your family, what your doing for school, beautiful family pictures....whatever is going on in your life at that time that you want to share. It's more interesting to me.

I do have to say that keeping track of multiple blogs can get a bit hectic -- but it's kind of a hobby of mine and I've learned to type so much faster than I hand-write so it's easier to record thoughts in typing form than sitting down with a journal ... otherwise I'd have 5-6 journals going at one time and I'd have to take time out to make them pretty -- online I can delete, rephrase, clean up easily!

Oh, thanks, Erin and Jen . I think it is easier to lump it all together for me -- it's all lumped together in my head anyway -- but I periodically go through seasons of doubt about whether other people want to dig through the "lumps"  , kwim?
i guess the exception is learning notes, which do seem easier when kept separately... but the reason I stopped using that blog was because it was so hard for me to find time to type in all the info every day and I was forgetting things. So I went back to a hard copy journal which I keep open on top of my microwave (otherwise known as my "desk" ) and have just been jotting down notes as I go through the day. The only disadvantage is that the particular journal I'm using doesn't have enough room for longer, chattier entries, so I may dust off the learning notes blog when we get going again.
