Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I love polls, don't you?

I was inspired by MaryG's thread to invite the new members and old lurkers out of silence and into active participation, and I started wondering...why do we come to 4Real?

:: Why do you come?
:: What keeps you coming back...especially you old timers!
:: What are you looking for more of?
:: Less of?
:: Have your reasons changed as you've matured in your homeschooling vocation?

This is really just me being curious. I thought for some of you lurkers especially, you might be more comfortable clicking a pretty little bubble button rather than adding your 2 cents, but I'm looking for the 2 cents as well! Leave a comment in a post below.

**Note**
This is not a moderator generated question, though as a moderator, I think this kind of feedback is valuable! We are not considering veering from our mission here at 4Real, in fact we are just as anchored as ever to it because we see the fruit that comes from discussions rooted in this vision. This is just me...just Jen...wondering why you all stop by with your cup of tea each day and what you're looking for when you do?

OH...I forgot to say...if you're like me you could vote for almost everything listed up there...I'm challenging us...try to keep your vote to your 3 primary reasons for stopping by with your cup of tea!

Can't wait to visit with you all over my cup of tea later!

You can only vote for one!!!! I come here for everything but the last choice. I'll have to go narrow my choice down.

I panicked too, Mary Chris, but you can vote for more than one! You just have to submit your vote and then vote again...I would vote for all of them but the last choice as well...it's obvious by the number of my posts that I'm not a lurker.

Jennifer! What a great poll ... altho I sure did want to click 'em all (except the "lurker" part ... I mean I have 5000+ posts ) ...

I personally love the comraderie and the recommendations ... the ability to have real friends anytime! (and then to get to know them IRL, is a just such a boot! )

Can't wait to see how the numbers "shake out"....

I'm mostly a lurker, posting here and there though. I come here for the great ideas, the amazing archives and the general spirit of the board. We are not catholic, but this is the only place that I have felt was as conservative as we are, treasures the roles of the wife and the husband, values modesty and the importance of our faith in our daily lives, and reflects my desires in teaching my children.

Thank you for doing this...while the reasons are many, I cast my three votes for those areas I turn to most. I could easily have checked them all, even the last...sometimes all I have in me is lurking, listening and savouring!

Oh, that makes me smile! I'm so glad you're here! I love how you characterize the "general spirit of the board."

So well said, Servant! I know I sometimes really discern a need for quiet and silence. That this board embraces all our seasons, whether they are quiet and lurking, or open and asking all sorts of questions and giving feedback, is one of the many blessings of this board! So well put, as always! I love having you here! Your wisdom, experience, and beautiful outlook is something I treasure!

Just 3? Really, Jen?? Okay, fine.

When I entered the Church a few years ago, I was inspired by the Catholics I had been reading about who were living out their faith and living out the liturgy. Unfortunately, I didn't know a single one like that in real life. I found the 4Real boards in 2006 and read voraciously, drinking up everything written here- what an inspiration you all were to me! I was so relieved to find other mothers who desired to please God by living out their Catholic faith in their homes. I lurked for a long while before joining. I'm so glad I jumped into the conversations- this board is such a blessing to me.

I love it all, especially the encouragement of likeminded women, but ultimately, the thing that always brings me back after I've been away for a few weeks is the archives. Whatever is on my mind, I rest assured that it's already been discussed here by wiser women than myself. I learn so much.

I come for all but the last one too. It was hard to choose just 1.

I wish there were a "someday" option. With God's blessing, I'll have children to raise and teach in the future, but right now, I just want to soak up the wisdom of those who are going before me!

Why do I keep coming back?

Because I know you guys love me.

Seriously! Maybe not all of you but so many of you show your love for me and each other in SO many ways.

Because I love praying for you all and having you pray for me.

Where else could I come and say "I'm expecting again!" and get , or say "We've decided to hold off on more children right now and it's heartbreaking" and have you understand instead of .

Like others have said you are a wealth of knowledge - I search the archives weekly if not more so. And that knowledge is always in line with the Truth, as best we can figure it out.

But I'm here mostly because I love you. Leaving 4Real would be like running away from home.

(and you put up with my typos, spelling errors, extreme overuse of parentheses, and emoticons )

Whew! I was trying hard to decide on just 1, also. Thanks to all who are chatting here

Honestly, I'm here because I like the support, I like discussing our Faith, I like hearing what's going on with others, I like getting new ideas and hearing what works/doesn't work for others, I like having a place that I trust to look up and discuss information (searching the archives or posting a new topic), and I like being able to pop in and out when I can, knowing you are all "right here".

THANKS TO ALL!!!

God bless,
Christine

There isn't an option that says "avoiding my big pile of laundry for a few more minutes"

Really, I come here for that fact that all of you are working to get you and your families to Heaven, and you are willing to share your journey with us, as well as your prayers, support and friendship.

Thank you!

I have to say that what first drew me here was the intellectual conversation about ideas related to homeschooling or faith. Then I needed it for social support and curriculum suggestions. Lately, I find I enjoy just scanning the thread titles and lurking on the couple of conversations that interest me. Funny how things have changed over time.

I do not participate as much as I'd like, but I hope that as I journey farther down this homeschooling path I will have more to contribute!
