Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hi everyone!

I'm Jo. I'm mama to four children, 2 girls ages 2 and 10 months and 2 boys ages 10 and 7. I am an American, originally from Memphis, Tn, but we've lived all over (Olympia, Washington; San Diego, California; Bloomington, Indiana) and now we live in Wales!

I've lurked here for a while and read a few of your blogs.

I have a blog at www.cyfaill.blogspot.com.

I'm glad to be here!

How we made it to Wales, well, it's nothing amazing or anything.

My husband, Benny, worked for a company in Indiana that closed their Indiana offices. Everyone moved to a suburb of Detroit and Benny got chosen to come to Wales for 2 years if he/we wanted to and then to Detroit. We found it an easy decision to make and here we are!

I should also add, in the interest of full disclosure, that we are not Catholic, we are Quakers.

Ha! Ha! My daughter, Freya, might think so. She loves ducks so much.

I have been following a few of your blogs (especially By Sun and Candlelight) for some time now and I like how you incorporate both your faith and nature in your homeschooling. I like how any one method isn't rigidly followed. I appreciate the wisdom from parents with many children. I like how kids with special needs aren't considered defective but just different. And I like the intellectual discussion. I was content with lurking for so long because I was planning an international move and dealing with post partum depression and a new baby all at once. Now we are down with mono and supposed to rest so I decided it would be a good time to get involved.

I just like how open and loving you all are with each other. So many other home ed boards can be kind of dogmatic with the approach. I once got blasted for mentioning that my child with an auditory processing disorder was learning to read without phonics. There is no political fighting, nobody seems to question each others faiths just because of little doctrine differences.

And I just love love love how much you seem to actually live your faith. It's inspiring. Seriously inspiring. I've gotten a lot of ideas from y'all and I'm just so glad to be here.

Actually Quaker is the Religious Society of Friends. My husband and I weren't even raised Quaker we just found them and it was a good fit. (Though I say Got put us in touch with our Quaker meeting in Bloomington, Indiana. I don't think it was random that I walked into that meeting and knew I was home.) My husband was raised Catholic (but nothing at all like y'all are raising your children, it was more Catholic in name. He went to Catholic school and mass, but none of the living activities y'all do with your families.). I was raised protestant, Christian (Disciples of Christ) and then Southern Baptist.

I'd be pleased to answer any questions if you have them and I thank you all for welcoming me and being such an inspiration.
