My brother and SIL just had baby #7, and their oldest is the same age as mine. I've been putting together a "box of quiet moments" for her--things my kids love and would be new to her kids--to buy her some quiet time with the new baby. I shopped at the National Gallery and picked some things that are a cross between "educational" and fun. So far I have:
Art Lotto
Continuo Game
Camille and the Sunflowers
In the Garden with Van Gogh
Gallery Ghost
Ferby knockoffs with a new coloring book
and an art puzzle.
I still would like to add a few more things including something specific for her, and gift certificates for diapers and a meal....What would you add to a box like this? What would you want in one?
I'm also interested to see what sort of themed "quiet moments" boxes other people come up with.

Rachel-Have you looked at IKEA by any chance...no time to link but I just shopped there for some gift stash and there is a three piece wooden train for 3.99 and a set of sea life finger puppets for 5.99. They would be nice quiet time toys.

Great idea Rachel!
The boys received in their stockings three wooden puzzles that might have been seen at Pier 1. They were very little, but stumped them for a while! Oh well... and me too. I couldn't find a link -- but they were little 5" x 5" puzzles made from geometric shapes. I then drew index card clues of how to remake the puzzle -- mostly for my sake.

I know you already have a puzzle, but I have found some great wooden puzzles at Tuesday Morning. My favorites are the ones in wooden boxes that have a variety, but there are usually several to choose from.

Oooh, good ideas...thanks!....now to go shopping some more.... (where's the handrubbing with glee emoticon).... which direction to head first?
How about a jump rope, the long kind? Too dangerous? Needs too much parental help?

Not necessarily. My kids tie one end of a long jump rope to a secure door knob (we use the one attached to our garage door. One child turns the rope, the other jumps.)
A neat addition and favorite of ours is Anna Banana: 101 Jump Rope Rhymes.
I wanted to mention what a neat idea this is, Rachel! Wish I had a sil as thoughtful as you!!

This is a good idea, too. I was thinking of having the kids make a jumprope rhyme book--we use the RL Steveson poems mostly--for their cousins as a way of getting them involved, but if I bought one, the box might make it there before the baby turns 1!

I was thinking about what we used to do during quiet time, especially with my cousins. Besides reading, of course, we used to play cards. Some games are a little more rowdy, but there are so many good card games. We used to play "Spit" (sometimes known as "Speed") and have tournaments. "Spoons", "Hearts" and then there's variations of Solitaire, and some games that have multiple people playing Solitaire but sharing and first one finished wins. "I Doubt It" was another popular one. Later I learned Euchre, which I really enjoy.
Just a few suggestions beyond "Go Fish" and "Battle" (or "War").

A cheap CD player (Target has them for around $10) and stories on CD (there are lots of good ones to download for free at Storynory) have bought me many a badly needed quiet moment.

Still working on this, and I can see Dealing with Addition and some other card game books (I got a great one at the book sale that first year, Jenn) and cards or a box of audio books with CDs being their own boxes for future babies.
Today I thought I would add a copy of Roots Shoots Buckets and Boots and seeds for sunflower houses before I finally tape it up and mail it off.
I also remember that someone sent Elizabeth some themed boxes when she was on bedrest, but I can't remember the theme.
