Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

I would really like to get something for my MIL who is joining the church next weekend. Can you help me brainstorm some ideas? She's 66 years old and we need to keep it low in cost, maybe less than $50. I don't think she has a rosary so I thought that might be a good gift. Any other ideas?

TIA!

A Magnificat subscription perhaps with a cover or Daily Roman Missal which has large print options.

A basic prayer book, like Handbook of Prayers is really nice. There are explanations on devotions included, too.

The rosary is a good idea, and perhaps a companion book with the rosary? I'd say the encyclical on the rosary by John Paul II.

A crucifix is always a nice gift, too. I love giving the San Damiano Crucifix, if I know people like that image.

I think a crucifix for the home is a wonderful idea. That was the favorite gift I was given when I came into the Church.

I like the suggestion of a crucifix. Our priest always tells us we can never have too many and suggests having one for each room.

Thanks for the suggestions! I went ahead and got her a crucifix and will probably get some of the prayer books or the Magnificat later on. The Handbook of Prayers is wonderful--I love ours!
