Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Ds 17 wants to go skiing after Christmas so I thought I would get him ski pants. There is a HUGE range of prices for them. I am really tempted to go with some from Target which are about $25. It's not like he will be skiing often and we don't get much snow in VA. I can get a pair on sale from amazon.com for $50 marked down from $75.

Ski folks: should I go for the lesser pair or will he get miserably wet and cold?

We are skiers and we always go for the cheap ones.

I would also suggest some long underwear underneath them. The layering is what really helps with the wind and cold.

yep.. I just bought cheap ones for my kids.. and I buy columbia jackets.. just the seat and knees get such hard wear.. well.. I'd rather replace a cheap pair than replace an expensive pair.. the jackets on the other hand can be reliably passed down.

And you don't necessarily need insulated pants.. a shell that's waterproof and breathable can be more utilitarian because you can layer under whatever you need for the conditions.. for instance if it's pretty warm out (and it can be) a shell can be worn over lightweight clothes and still keep you dry vs insulated that you may be getting overheated in.

And my favorite place to find good quality at cheap prices is http://www.sierratradingpost.com I was just looking for my dh and you can likely get good quality pants there for about $30.
