I somehow got malware on my computer - despite having very high levels of virus and spyware protection. I was on an Artisan bread site and then everything went wrong. I have run my virus and spyware again and quarantined a trojan - but still have malware. I don't even know what this is - but I cannot get any website through google or explorer - it just redirects me to some advertising sites eg yellow. I can only get into these forums because the site is in my cache.
Any help would be so appreciated. My dh is not home until very late.

Oh my stars - I've never heard of this, Marilyn. I have absolutely no wisdom, whatsoever to offer. I'm praying someone here does - how invasive and destructive!
I wish my dh were home to help, but this is his late night, too.

I would go to www.newbie.org and post your problem in their help forum (in the PC Cleanup section). You may have to register. They have helped me clean up my computer several times. Good luck!

I had major malware, spyware, adware issues this past summer on a practically brand new computer. It was horrible & terribly painful to try to get rid of until I found the following website:
www.computergeeks.com
They have several step-by-step procedures to help eliminate every last spec of anything bad on your computer, and then tell you how to protect it so it never happens again. Plus, they'll help analyze your files if you run into trouble. And it's all free.
I hope that helps. It took me 8-10 hours a day for several days to get everything off my harddrive & back to normal, but it was worth every second.
Praying your situation is much simpler, and much easier to get rid of!!!

We have also used computer geeks (well, my dh has ... I am not the *technical* person in the home ) and have had great luck with them.
Good luck resolving your situation!

Thanks everyone. I think we are almost sorted out. We had a HIJACK virus - despite firwall, virus protection, spyware protection and Windows defender!!! I knew when it happened - I was googling Artisan Bread in 5 minutes - and clicked on a site - I got a message but my computer could not stop it.
We could not get on any of your recommended sites - because the hijack software prevented us getting to any malware removal or help site. It was scary.
My dh, who rocks, stayed up all night working on it. There is a Microsoft 24 hour helpline which is awesome - free and helpful. We were on the telephone to them for hours. They cleaned out our computer - but could not solve the problem. My dh discovered a fix - and we are hoping it is permanent. I am still too scared to do banking or order anything online.

Not addressing the malware issue because I know next to nothing about these things (I should, but I've been lazy so I try to just be careful about what sites I visit/trust) -- but in case you were still looking for that artisanal bread in 5 minutes, what specific info about it were you looking for?

It really is yukky - cannot imagine how with all our computer protection. We still have residual problems. My 4 year old's godfather is coming round tonight to work with dh and make sure everything is cleaned up. I wish I could live without a computer. I think maybe this is another not so subtle hint for me to lessen computer time
Re the bread - Stef I just wanted to find out about it. I really want to start making my own bread again - and someone mentioned this was easy.
