For Christmas, I'm asking for a new pair of slippers. Currently I wear Lands End mule slippers. I like them a lot but they don't have a lot of support. I've done a little research on the internet and found these slippers that I really think would be great:

ACORN SLIPPERS

So, which slippers are keeping your feet warm this winter?

I wear Acorn slippers and LOVE them! They are so soft and comfy, and I like the solid bottom in case I need to run outside for a minute. They are on my feet all day, every day, from October til April (it's pretty cold here!) Mine are a different style than those you linked to, though.

I've been wondering this same question. i think I might have asked last year. I thimk I'm totally in a minority and totally high maintenance when it comes to slippers, because I can't find what I want. I end up wearing my Naot clogs in the house.

I do like the hard sole, so I can wear outside, but that's not necessary.

What I find is that my feet need to breathe, and while bare feet are cold, anything else than cotton socks are too hot and stifling! Anything manmade I just get sweaty feet.

And I'm allergic to wool, but I've never tried boiled wool slippers. I'm on the verge of trying that, or find some leather slippers lined with cotton.

Does anyone else have this problem, or do you just need to tell me to "get over it, Jenn!"?

Jenn,

My dh has the same problem. His feet are cold in the winter but he doesn't like to wear slippers because they make his feet sweaty. I tried googling slippers for sweaty feet (sorry that sounds so gross ) but I had no luck.

Kerry,

Thanks for the input on the ACORN slippers. I think it'll go on my Christmas list.

Trixie, I'm chuckling over here. I wonder how many searches Google gets for that!

I think there are more options for men, like those fancy leather slippers. I can't think of the name, but I also think "rich" when I see them.

Reviving this thread as I am trying to decide on slippers. Currently, I'm wearing Acorn boiled wool. This is my third year in them, and I fear that two slipper seasons (October through April) is all they will afford. The show itself seems fine, but the sole was held on by fabric and is now falling off. I will try to glue it, I suppose, but I'm not hopeful, really. I could probably take it all the way off, but I don't really know if it would have traction enough or be durable enough to survive very long.

These have been good slippers. I need wool or shearling because my feet get very cold and I get chilblains if I don't keep them toasty.

I wear them far more than any other shoe I own, so maybe two years is actually the longest I'm going to get on a shoe worn all day, every day??? Or given how much I wear them, is there another choice that, even if pricier, would be a better value?

I don't know.. Cabelas had a wonderful slipper with good support the outersole that wrapped up so that I could walk outside even with a bit of snow on the ground and stay dry.. leather upper with a shearling inside.. and they stopped making them

I tried to get a new pair and sent them back. they had no support and for no support I can buy a $10 pair from Rite Aid.. rather than a $50+ pair.

And actually that is what I ended up doing.. just buying a cheap pair (or two) since I couldn't find what I wanted.

Now sure what way I'm going to go this year. probably just another cheap pair since I don't feel up to the hunt for good slippers.

I would go with a cheap pair except that I really need the breathable warmth of wool because of my chilblains. The moisture (sweat) of a synthetic makes them flare up as does getting cold. Sigh. So, if I'm paying for wool or shearling, which isn't cheap, then I'd like for it to last a while. This is my second pair to fall apart in 4 years of needing slippers, so two years seems to be the life, but I'd pay more if it meant a longer lifespan. I'd rather get some more real shoes, but I can polish my old ones, I guess, since I *need* slippers.

How about boiled wool clogs? Halfinger? You could wear with socks inside.

My mother does this with Birkenstock covered toe shoes and makes them indoor shoes.

Only slippers I wear are Ugg Boots (well a cheaper version of these ). My cheapie version are synthetic wool with synthetic soles. One day I may splurge and buy the real McCoy.

LOVE my Acorns (look like the same as Bilby this year, although they had another name last year). Nice and toasty. Despite that I wear them all day, every day for nine months a year, a year later the cushion in the sole is still, well, cushiony. The sole shows little wear, too.

Good luck.

I wear smartwool socks with my wool slippers, and in the coldest months, I even add wool leg warmers to increase circulation. Granted, we keep the house cool in winter, but it takes a lot of effort to keep these toes toasty, lol.

But they haven't fallen apart? I have Acorns, and they are still comfy, its just the sole is falling off. I've worn them for two years. Are yours that old? Do I just need a different model of Acorn?

I don't love the boots, but I just looked at Zappo, and they do have slippers--which look more like real shoes than the regular boots. These are pretty cute. Not sure if I would like wearing a real sole all day. I prefer being barefoot at home, its just I can't anymore, but slippers are a nice compromise. And really, with the Uggs being twice as much as the Acorns, they'd need to last more than 4 years to be a better value, even if my Acorns fall apart every 2 years.

Okay, I promise I'll stop serial posting as others have better things to do than help me find slippers. Anyone have any experience with this Giesswein brand? The latex sole that wraps up the sides looks promising as my Acorn has thin fabric wrapping the sides and holding on the sole, and that is the part that has worn through.

This particular Acorn shoe seems to be made similarly, with the rubber sole wrapping the edge of the slipper. So, maybe it is the style I need to look at changing rather than the brand for how hard I seem to be on slippers.
