We planned to have Thanksgiving here, but my mom wants to have the dinner at her place. My husband isn't excited about coming home to no leftovers to enjoy.
When you celebrate Thanksgiving at a friend or family member's home, what do you do about leftovers? Cook your own smaller meal the next day?

I'm cooking a turkey this week. I can get it cheap but don't have room in my freezer for a whole turkey.. so I'll cook it and slice it and chop it and make broth out of the carcass and then put it in the freezer.
certainly nothing that says you can only have turkey and all the trimmings only on thanksgiving.

We were just talking about this. For the last couple years we have gone to family and I have hated not having leftovers! So, we are going to do our own smaller meal. I think thought we will do it right after, and take advantage of turkey sales! :)

Hmmm. We never seem to have this problem. We're food magnets. Our family, and our larger church family, see it as their mission in life to feed us. It's fairly wonderful.
We always come from a dinner (at church or someone's home) with aluminum trays full of food. I can't explain it.
If I wanted turkey dinner leftovers, I think I'd probably just make a dinner ahead - or at least the trimmings my family liked best - and put them up in the fridge or freezer.
Next week is Pie Week at our house. I *can't wait*!
Blessings,

When we eat at my mom's house I am also more than likely helping to prepare the dinner. We just make extra food there so we still get leftovers to bring home. Maybe you could ask your mom to cook a bigger turkey or offer to buy or bring some of the groceries.

Have a blessed day.

We still celebrate two Thanksgivings--one at my parents' and one at my husband's parents'. We usually come home from both homes with leftovers since, with no children at home, our parents don't want so much extra food lying around just for themselves.
