Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

What do you do when you get together with other women? I am trying to plan a gathering for about 14 women. We are going to spend one day and one night at a lake cabin. We want it to be fun and relaxing with some time for prayer for one another but not formal teachings or talks. I am looking for activities that would help us to make this occasion special and memorable. Any ideas?

Now, granted this is coming from me, but what about pulling together a simple craft that can be done throughout the weekend. Maybe making string rosaries, or quilting squares for each other to make into a quilt. Or little scrapbooking sessions (with someone taking pictures throughout the weekend) so y'all can put together scrapbooks for each other. You could do "secret sisters" where names are drawn and each lady gets a secret sister ... do little things for throughout the weekend and over the time to come and then at Christmas or Easter or some later time, reveal the secret sister who has been praying and writing little notes and sending little things ....

i like the idea of having some craft type things.. it's always so much easier if you have something to keep your hands busy. Also have sign ups for things like the different meals to make.. ahead of time if you can so that those doing the cooking can have input on the meal.. but I know there's women that would put cooking in the same category as crafts.. so that would give those women their creative outlet as well.

Or.. along those same lines.. if you know people well enough.. set up groups to work together on the necessary chores.. like cooking and cleaning up the kitchen.. and set up the groups so that people get a chance to work with and get to know women they may not already know.

Oh and how about some sort of walks or hikes.. have a couple of different lengths..

Or fishing.. does anyone like to fish.. having some gear so that people can go together and fish might be nice.

have some board games or card games for the evening.. especially ones that can be more open to many people.. maybe something like Pictionary or Trival Pursuit that can be played in teams.. Shanghai Rummy can be played with many players.. or something more silly like Charades.

Thanks Mary and Jodie,

Sorry I didn't reply early. I am trying hard to stay away from the computer. Any how, I like your ideas. I have thought of a craft but I am not sure what. This group of women is not very crafty (beginning with myself). I like the idea of the secret sister.

Jodie thanks for the practical points. It always helps to be reminded of the details. We will probably go on a walk. There are not places to hike around there but we can definitely manage a walk.

If anybody has more ideas, I will love to hear them.
