As bad as today was, there was one thing for which I was thankful. I got fired from my babysitting job on Saturday which meant that I did not have someone else's 14 month old here in the middle of our chaos.
I am, of course, still slightly dismayed because I was really counting on the money. Unfortunately, my dogs decided to get in a fight in front of the little girl's grandmother on Friday. My dogs are big and their fights, though rare, are quite scary. I was really surprised she left the little one at all, but she did. However, she called Saturday to say even though she knows the dogs wouldn't hurt the child intentionally, she was still worried about them hurting her unintentionally. So, she decided to find another care provider.
Now, I am left pondering my next move. Obviously, after our less than stellar start to the year, the idea of adding in another child to the fray is not my first choice. I need to supplement our income though, and quickly. Maybe I could sell the dogs. Oh, if only...I can't even give them away!
I am open to suggestions.

Molly, I have had a job managing office buildings: one building which housed 3 or 4 different medical groups, etc. I was given all of the contacts of whom to call if heating, or snow removal, pest control, etc, and I jsut fielded calls from the offices when they had a complaint/issue. I had to go out to the building about once a month to check in in person, look over the grounds, etc, and I tried to call to make sure snow removal came, etc.
You can make some good money doing it!!

What about a dog sitting service? I know another Catholic hsing mother who does this. Let me know if you want more info.
I could have made a killing with this last hurricane evacuation. Vets in our area weren't kenneling any pets because of Katrina and Rita.
What about breeding the dogs and selling the pups?
My bil and sil do that with their chihuahuas (sp?) and boxers.

I hope they aren't breeding the Chihuahuas with the Boxers......
Lisa, how did you find out about the position of office building manager? Is that type of job just advertised in the paper, or does it usually come through references? That sounds very interesting. TIA

Well, I am pretty sure I would get fired from that one when my dog ate someone else's!

What about pet sitting in others' homes? My brother hires bonded cat-sitters who come over a couple of times a day to feed and scoop litter boxes for their six cats...I know it's a couple of trips out per day, but it would not be for too long each time.

I'm so sorry about the loss of extra pay, Molly! My first reaction was, "blessing in disguise?" Praying that God will send you a clear vision of His plan for your family!
