Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Thanks for humoring me on this poll! If you went into college straight from high school and attended 4 years, how old were you when you graduated?

These polls are to satisfy my husband's curiousity.

I think you should add a generic Older than 22 and younger than 21 to this poll to catch those outside the norm.

July birthday again...

It's funny VA school "ages" are different from when I grew up.   If you were 5 by Dec. 31st, you went to school... and I think CT *still* has those dates.

So this is an interesting poll b/c I've been intrigued by what "other" people do for school ages/grades too.

Virginia Law: All children between five and eighteen must attend school. Specifically, those who will be five years old on or before September 30, and those who have not passed their eighteenth birthday, must attend some type of school.

Dh's birthday is in January, and he sees that my son (whose birthday is in September) will be one of the youngest in his class.

These are the socialization questions I get from dh. I don't think Alice touched on this one! She needs a sequel!

If I'd been able to get through college in 4 yrs.. I would have been 21.. but I had to take a year off and move slower to be able to work as well.

Jenn, we didn't want to start our boy with an Aug. birthday while he was 5.. we waited until he was 6. But here the cutoff is Sept 1. And they don't have to officially be in school until age 7 at the beginning of the year. But we started him in CCD at the younger age because he was already friends with that group of boys.

The only problem we've run into is that he's behind in reading but a good portion of that is thanks to the "helpful" adults who took it upon themselves to tell him he couldn't read and needed extra help or such .. we spent the next year with any type of reading instruction he'd shut down and claim "I can't".. and we're still struggling with that though it's more a lack of trying than being so sure that he can't read anymore. We've had some time off and will be starting up on Monday and I hope we cant get to that lightbulb moment this year.

I have similar discussions with Dan.. but it's usually about athletic ability rather than socialization per se.

John Paul was 5 on Sept 3 in the year he started K. VCan't tell you how it turned out... yet.

This one doesn't apply for me.
I didn't start college until I was 21.

I was a month out from turning 22 when I graduated from college - but still was only 21 at graduation.

Ummm...lets just say I was a bit older than 22. I changed schools, got married, and had a kid before I graduated. That does slow things down a bit.

I was 25.

Took a year off between high school and starting. I graduated at 17 (November birthday)

Earned my associates degree in 2 years.

Then, I took 2 years off to earn enough money to continue. Took 3 years when I returned to earn my bachelor's degree because I transferred. I could have pushed hard and done it in 2, but there were reasons I didn't :)

Went straight to college and graduated with an engineering degree in 4 years because I had AP credits from high school and took a few summer classes...otherwise I would have been in there 5 years and graduated at 22 with 23 year old classmates.

22 for me but Bill was 20. His first day in the Army the drill seargant asked who wasn't yet 21. He was the only one and the DS said, "Anyone caught giving alcohol to this man will be kicked out!" He was VERY embarrassed. He was very sensitive about his age. But if he hadn't been so young, he could have gone to West Point instead of Duke, and we wouldn't have met!
