Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Does anyone have any tried and true tips for mailing homemade goodies in care packages.

This week, my son is off to college. He will be attending a military-style college and will not have the privilege to leave campus for quite some time. We plan to mail frequent packages and would like to include his favorite cookies and sweet breads. Can you tell me how to pack them so that they won't arrive as crumbs?

Do you get plastic sacks from the grocery store or Target or whatever? Those make the best packing material. Just bag the cookies, let out all the air, and completely surround them with the bags. You could also use tins or Gladware and fill in all the gaps and between layers with wax paper--but that could get pricey.

Empty Pringles cans keep cookies from breaking. (Hey, they work for the chips!)
