Oh, Dearest Mother, Sweetest Virgin of Altagracia, our Patroness. You are our Advocate and to you we recommend our needs. You are our Teacher and like disciples we come to learn from the example of your holy life. You are our Mother, and like children, we come to offer you all of the love of our hearts. Receive, dearest Mother, our offerings and listen attentively to our supplications. Amen.

Hello!

My name is Penny and I'm a SAHomeschoolingMom to 2 lovely daughters in Vermont. This will be our 5th year homeschooling, and I really can't believe how fast the time has flown.

We have used a variety of methods through the years, and I even went so far as to become a certified Montessori teacher, just for home use. I've also been drawn to Waldorf methods for a long time (hello gnomes!) but have come to see that what really works for us is simplicity. Literature has *always* been our backbone, living books our joy. No matter what method, no matter what philosophy, it's the books that have made the difference (along with the love of course!).

I feel incredibly blessed to homeschool, and I am overwhelmed with gratitude about it *almost (LOL)* every day --

I'm hoping to be part of this group in order to share the homeschooling path with all of you, and also to be drenched in your faithfulness. I was born a Catholic (and received first communion and was confirmed, but without understanding any of it at all), and I am looking to step back into the faith a lot more firmly. I know that through my association with all of you, I will come to know and understand much more than I do now, and I am grateful for this opportunity to homeschool my faith as I homeschool my beloved daughters. Thank you :)

Welcome! After this hot, humid Virginia summer, I am thinking Vermont sounds pretty good! How's the weather?

You will find lots of inspiration here and it sounds like you will do a fair share of inspiring us "old-timers" with your enthusiasm and fresh ideas.

Glad to have you here!

Thank you all for the lovely warm welcome :)

After poking around the archives today, I find I am drawn to the wonderful ways you manage your homes - thank you so much for sharing that! I've often felt that educating was the easy part, having a peaceful home with clean laundry and dinner cooking on time is where my challenges currently lie...

It really is an atmosphere and a life, isn't it? Not just the right books on the bookshelf (although, of course, that's nice too!).

Thanks again for all welcome thoughts -

Penny -- welcome, welcome!

And you're right -- living homeschooling is a full-time, 24/7 vocation that has us trying to set the atmosphere so we're all learning (believe me, it's amazing how much I've learned in the years I'm been with my kids ) and loving the learning and seeking to learn more.

It truly is an atmosphere!

Hi, Penny!
The wonderful blessings that flow on this board bless my family nearly every day, and it will be like that for you as well.

How's Vermont? I went to high school in Fair Haven and Burlington, and got my BSN from "Groovy UV". Haven't been back in years, and now live out on the Kansas prairie. Such lovely memories, though.

Such kind welcomes, thank you everyone :)

As to Vermont, well, I'm biased! I grew up on a farm about 30 minutes from where I currently live, and I love our little state! The distinct seasons all have their own beauty (and challenges - especially mud season!) and I love living near my family, even though they are suspicious of (and some are downright hostile toward) homeschooling.

Not that VT is better than anywhere else, and I'm sure around March when the snow is still 3 feet high I'll be kinda grumpy about it... but mostly it's good :)

This summer has been rainy, I drove by a cornfield with a flock of ducks swimming in it last week - crazy! Summer is short, already signs (just whispers) of fall are evident - a turned leaf here, a cool night there... I welcome them.   It must be the farmer in me, I just love harvest time !

Anyway, thank you again (and again) for the warm welcomes. I am awed by your wisdom as I look through the forums, I have much to learn, and hopefully a little to share...

Cheers - Penny
